Do you Dress for Comfort, for Your Clients or the Seller?
When I first got into the business years ago, there was a saying - Dress for Success even if you have no where to go. It did not matter who your client was, or what you were showing --- you were dressed for success! There was also a saying to dress up one or two steps from your clients.
I know this probably differs across the Country, (City and Country showings) but here in Denver we have clients that are very comfortable being casual and feel more comfortable with us being dressed casual. If I am showing vacant homes, it is all about my clients. If the homes are occupied and the possibility of the Seller being home, I want the Seller to distinguish between the buyer and the REALTOR®. I want to appear professional! I know if you are showing homes in Vail in the middle of a snowstorm, your attire should be different, or if you are showing country property with 35 acres and expect to walk the acreage! If you are showing in a beach community, do you wear shorts?
In the first few months of my career, I was in the office when a floor call came in, but I was wearing black jeans and a t-shirt. I did end up selling this family an executive luxury home, and to this day, they still remind me, those were my "lucky jeans".
Is the skirt with matching suit coat your style? Maybe the Hillary pant suit look?
This weekend I have a client coming into Denver to buy a loft downtown and the temperatures are expected to be 95 degrees! I will definitely be wearing a dress with flat shoes for comfort, yet hopefully giving this new client a professional look!
