Edible Landscaping

What is more colorful than the beautiful colors of fruits and vegetables along wih the flowering plants that produce them?

There is a move within our area to plant edible landscaping instead only ornamental plants for yard decor.  Fruit trees, arbors with grape vines, hanging strawberry plants.. many colorful and gorgeous perennials produce yummy food for the table and add a one of a kind touch of beauty to the area that they grow in.

Why not spend your time cultivating and tending to flower beds that give you back something in return for your time, effort, and money?

Your local flower and garden center should be able to advise you as to which plants and varieties will do the best and produce well in your area.  There are numerous websites that offer suggestions and sell plants online too!

Just Google "Edible Landscaping".

I agree that planting eatable plants as part of our landscape is a good idea. The plants clean our air and provides food for our table. This is something that should be done by everyone.

Tending plants which produce things to eat could not be more rewarding. Our strawberry plants began to produce this year and provide a great cover in our rear bed. Hope you are are well.

Judi, I have been thinking about planting some blueberry bushes.  I want something low maintenance and something you don't have to fight the bugs or birds for and not have to use poisonous chemicals.  Your post makes perfect sense-especially some herbs as well!

Judi - the title sure caught my attention. Sounds a bit strange, but makes all the sense in the world.

Judi, I do think this is a very good idea, but home owners need to think carefully about what they plant.  I thought it would be cool to have a couple apple and pear trees and while the fruit was good there's a lot of maintenance involved with dropped fruit and the wasps and critters they attract.  Still, the benefits can be very rewarding.
