Summer Vacation in 1947,
How About in a Camper Trailer?
In 1952, Our family took a Summer Vacation from southern Michigan to California and back, visiting all the popular sites. We, of course didn't have the luxuries of today. We stayed in motels along Route 66. It was a vacation to remember, but what if we decided to have a pull behind trailer.
First of all, we couldn't have done it in a car, going up and down the rocky mountains, because there were no interstates and four-lanes back then. They were lucky to have guard rails. Then there would be the choice of trailer. The one in the above photo is a 1947 Westwood Coronado. That would be the higher class way of travel. In the lower photo, you have the option of pulling it with a car, but look at what you sacrifice. How would you like to live in that for a month?
You can see both of these trailers and more at the RV and Motor Home Hall of Fame, located in Elkhart, Indiana, just off Interstate I-80/90 at exit 96.
Are you taking a vacation this year and how are you traveling?
