Special offer

Being recruited by another industry recruiter

By
Services for Real Estate Pros

OK you get calls from recruiters in the Real Estate field.  How do you feel about getting calls from people outside the
Real Estate field?  Occasionally I get calls from people trying to get me to leave the profession I'm in to do their deal.  I'm just imagining that Realtors get calls, email, post cards and other forms of communication from recruiters from various fields.

In my estimation, recruiters perceive Realtors to be good targets because of their entrepreneurial spirits.  Let's face it, if you can sell Real Estate you probably could sell other services as well.  I've known Realtors who began to add other financial services to their "portfolio."  The question I have is does it really enhance their income or serve them in some other way?

To do multiple things is certainly possible but is it feasible for most Realtors?  I can see a person making a choice to leave the profession to start a new career.  That what has happened to most of us.  Many of us came into the career we are in presently from something else.

But what about those calls?  How do you handle them?  Do you even entertain the offers?

Just some thoughts,

Ced

Maybe I'm narrow minded, but I'm not interested in doing two things right now.  I have thought about spreading myself out, but I would have to have a like minded person making sure my main business is going smoothly.

John, I guess people who get calls and consider offers have to be pretty good at what they do.

D. Bass, I guess it would take having things going smoothly in one area before spreading ones self out. It would seem like things could go haywire if a person was spread to thin. Thanks for your comment.

Ced:  Most of the time when I get calls like this... it's usually at a time when I am smack dab in the middle of something, so I am afraid that my response to the caller is not what I would call the friendliest.  Mostly I just tell them not to call me again, and then tell them to "have a great day" in as friendly a manner as I can muster.

If one of them gets me when I can listen, I might give them a minute or two... at least until I find out the subject of their call... and then I handle it accordingly.

Karen Anne,  thanks for your response. I would have imagined you would handle it in a professional manner.

Thanks again,

I get offers all the time.  I've got my masters in human resources and I get emails from http://hr-jobs.theladders.com/ advertising their six-figure salary positions they want me to apply for.  I get emails from www.exploretalent.com to get involved in movies, feature films, musicals, theater or stage.  I look at all that and I say "that's nice!"

It'd be nice to be involved in all that but it all comes down to priorities.  What Do I Want To Do?

Instead, I choose to be a full time real estate agent, yet I recently entertained an offer and took on a new venture as a dealer for Colonial Structures Cedar Log Homes.  I am also a big band leader; I run my own band and I also play in several other bands.  I book engagements, hire and pay musicians, choose the music to play and in general I'm the boss... I have to make it happen.  Yes, it does put money in my pocket and it takes precious time away from other things, but I do all this because I want to, not because I have to.  I choose what I want to get involved in.

Doing multiple things is possible and feasible.  Look at Donald Trump; you'd think he doesn't have enough time in the day to do all that he does with all the things he has going on.  But some things are too good to pass up!  How busy do you want to be?????

Ced, I don't.  I love my profession and it's nothing out there that can take me away from it..  Real Estate is what I do, and serving my clients is what I do best.

I would rather stick to doing Real Estate. Entering another profession means more learning. I have been doing Real Estate for only over two years,so I have a lot of learning to do. But any of those people who called you looking to get into Real Estate, tell them to call me.

Lanre,  keep learning.  Becoming a pro at one thing in this industry is tough enough.

Stay in the game,
