What do you do when the doors open? Stop blogging?

What do you do when the doors open?

We spend a lot of time here working to get seen when the public searches the internet. Working to get ranked high with certain key words, posting about local events and places, and we make contacts and benefit from referrals. One day the doors open and the calls, leads, and jobs are coming on a regular basis. Now what?

With all the work that comes as a result of posting regularly here has led to more work, which means less time to continue posting. There are only 24 hours in a day and it is full. So you may be thinking that now would be a good time to back off the posting and comments for a while until I get caught up with the flood.

That is certainly an option for us, one that many have chosen to follow. Not a bad problem to have for a general contractor that has seen those other contractors that are going through some tough times. I have a different take on this.

I have learned that blogging can bring business to me in a tangible form. I get jobs that pay as a result of the work that I do here. It doesn't make a lot of sense to take a break from it. Now I may work on the types of posts that I do, there are those that get more attention than others. Being more efficient is an option worth looking into.

There are other benefits from continuing to draw new business. With a flow of new work coming, I can choose which projects that I want to do. Some projects pay more, some help me to grow as a contractor, and some just don't make a lot of sense to pursue. With out a continuing flow of new work, I may not have the same choices.

And let's not forget this important point. When things start to slow down and I have more time to blog, how long will it take to get busy again? There will likely be a lull in the work which may last some time before getting in the grove again; a grove that has already been established.

For me it just makes sense to continue posting the best that I can, work hard at doing and satisfying those that I an working with and choose future work that makes sense to me. Sure it takes time to blog, but it is well worth the efforts when we can see the results on a daily basis.

Tom, I am so glad you see results and are getting business from your blogging efforts in the Rain.  I have not seen any results (business) from blogging in the Rain for many years now. I do get referrals from other Rainers but business is not coming directly from my blogs. Generating business from blogging is a darn good reason not to stop!

Tom -- You are SO right. I have dropped off considerably due to being so busy Oddly enough, just had a conversation about an hour ago with a lender about blogging and how it brings so much exposure and business.  It pays to be consistent. Yes, I know it..... just have to make more time for it!

To stay on an even keel you must continue to prospect & that's what blogging is.

I was so busy I stopped blogging for a while and then the business dropped off.  There may or may not have been a connection.

So many people quit marketing when they're busy - and then one day find themselves "unemployed" and have to start all over again. Best to make the time to keep marketing.

Great advice for a Rookie Agent like myself trying to get started in this business.   Makes sense to me and it doesn't cost anything.
