Queen of the Prairie
I fell in love with the Queen of the Prairie at the Clermont Plant Sale a few years ago. I loved the delicate pink flower, however because it was known to grow between 4- 8 feet I wasn't sure I wanted it in the garden. In the end I did leave the sale with a plant.
At first it did not do so well, something kept eating it. I blamed the deer but it could have been another critter. The plant produced additional shoots so I moved a couple to another garden and hid them between other plants so they would have a chance of surviving, a move I never regretted.
The Queen of the Prairie has interesting leaves. Take a look and you will see what I mean. It does well in a sunny area as well as in partial shade.
When the Queen of the Prairie is in the process of blooming during the early summer it looks like this. The flower is a dull brown.
Then it turns pink
At the peak it is a wispy pink clump with a sweet smelling fragrance.
This flower is really a delight.
If this Monday's Flower is one you want to add to your garden here is a link to caring for the Queen of the Prairie.
