Blogging Just Isn't A Big Deal for Me

By
Managing Real Estate Broker with NextHome Experience 17050

I stumbled on a Broker's website this morning and when I clicked on the  "Blog" tab, I saw this post title:

"Blogging Just Isn't a Big Deal for Me"

The post went on to explain that the agent was busy selling real estate and didn't have time for blogging.

She also asked her readers' forgiveness for not having an updated blog and intimated that those who do blog on a consistent basis could be doing their clients a disservice by taking too much time out of their schedule to blog.

Hmmm...

I think about this, take another sip of my coffee and then ask myself,

"Self, (I say)

If this person doesn't blog, doesn't have time for blogging and thinks blogging is taking time away from her clients...

Why does she have a blog tab on her Website?"

Is it just me, or does this make no sense?

note: some changes to the details of the site have been changed to protect the innocent privacy of the broker

Colleen, I think she may be dealing with the fact that many consumers have come to expect a blog as an indication of their involvement with the profession and with providing information to past, present and future clients.  Numerous times my blog has made the difference between whether I got chosen over another inspector or not.

Colleen ~ perhaps writing that particular blog was an easy way to bow out of blogging ...

Why bother? Maybe their way of bragging?? Hmm, maybe they have time management issues??

Ironically, if a prospect clicks on her blog tab, it will likely take him or her to the very blog you just cited.  It's possible that the prospect would take it as a positive that this agent spends their time with clients rather than blogging.  It wouldn't be my own choice, but that's why they call us "independent" contractors.

To each their own - agent doesn't like to blog and advertises it. What's the ROI? Who knows but it is their business and does make us wonder. Now back to blogging.

Hi Colleen, I agree with some of the other comments if you don't blog get rid of the tab, I agree with her clients come first, but I've been in this business to know that we need to keep up a steady stream of marketing to stay relevant and attract new business.

Like anything, you have to do it right, with a purpose. If you do a couple blogs, a few videos and think hey, how come by yearly income did not triple? Whoa. There lies the problem. Like breathing, but with all the other marketing you do, in balance. Keep blogging, launch those videos and promote better than others in your market wished you did.

I love the Blogging tab, but if there be a way to remove/customize AR more like css codes or HTML where we can add or remove stuff, that would be nice.

It's funny to me that someone would blog about not liking to blog.

...to each his own. That blog might've been in response to the increase in permitted blogs per week.

We all make decisions on how to portion out our time. It seems silly to me to write a blog post about not having time to blog.

Hi Colleen...  I love the irony in this one. Having a blog post about not blogging is just too funny! They must have inner conflict about it otherwise why does she feel a need to explain it. Assuming those who blog regularly may be doing their clients a disservice is another opinion better left not said.

Two things, 1. Never have content that's supposed to point out what your site is about with a negative. 2. Don't talk about that which you don't know you don't know. One who blogs regularly would know that.

This sounds like the occasional student I get in my social media classes, "I know I should blog, but..." (followed with a list of objections). In today's world, having to say online you don't have time for blogging because you're too busy is kinda like saying, "I'm too busy for marketing, relationship building, or education.

If blogging works for you then do it. If not don't. In my opinion it is just another avenue to try and reach potential customers.

Collleen I'm guessing she has no idea of how to get rid of the blogging tab.  It doesn't make any sense to address what you're not going to offer.....huh?  Seems crazy to me!

I wonder if she'll post another blog post about not blogging. Have to admit it's a humorous oxymoron.

Colleen-" methinks she protests too much! "   That's ok if she chooses not to blog but it doesn't seem to be in good form to question those who do.

It might be a different type of marketing for her Colleen.  Blogging is an investment every agent/broker must have.

I have carried on this conversation with many in mortgage and real estate business. You point is correct, but some folks just don't get it, their loss.

hmmm not sure. maybe she started the blog then it became too overwhelming for her schedule. maybe its a marketing tactic since she stated the reason she didn't blog. was her site at least updated and had a good idx on it?

I didn't have much a problem until the mention that agents that do blog may be doing their clients a disservice. What a laugh! how disrespectful, how wrong.
