Your summer honey-do list or do it yourself . There's always something to do around the house when you are a homeowner, but sometimes you just don't think of everything, so here's a list to help you get started..
- Call for exterminator service, those pesky pest get pretty active in the summer.
- Check the chimney and roof vents for obstructions, such as nests and leaves.
- Check security of all the guardrails and handrails inside and out.
- Check functioning of all the windows and lubricate as needed.
- Check the condition of all the shingles for possible repair or replacement
- Deep clean carpets and rugs.
- Disconnect the dryer duct and vacuum lint from inside, the areas surrounding your clothes dryer and your dyers' vent hood outside.
- Ensure that the ground around your home slopes away from the foundation so that water does not pool there.
- Examine all roof flashings and roof joints for signs of cracking or leakage.
- Examine windows and doors for hot air leaks.
- If you have a plumbing fixture that is rarely used, run some water to keep water in the trap.
- Inspect and touch up caulk around windows, doors, thresholds and roof penetrations.
- Inspect electrical service lines for secure attachment where they enter your house, and make sure there is no water leakage into the house along the electrical conduit.
- Lubricate automatic garage door opener motor, chain and hardware
- Lubricate door hings and tighten screws on hings and hardware as needed.
- Remove any plants or roots that contact the exterior your home and utility lines.
- Replace air filters each month.
- Vacuum all bathroom and utility fan grills
- Water around your foundation evenly for 15 minutes a day, 3x a week.
