Volunteering in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Volunteer Baton Rouge!

It's time to get involved in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. If you have read past blogs, I'm sure you were excited by all the Baton Rouge Clubs & Organizations. The Baton Rouge Clubs & Organizations allow you to group with people that have the same interest as you and more. Well, now it's time for something a little different. It's time to give back, Baton Rouge, It's time to volunteer. It's easy to fit in volunteering into your busy schedule. Some Baton Rouge volunteer organizations might only ask for one or two hours a week. Volunteering is a great way to help others and feel good about yourself. Remember- it's better to give than to receive.

 Arts Council of Baton Rouge- The Arts Council are always looking for volunteers. Volunteer positions include: office assistants, artist receptions assistants, installation assistants needed and artists assistants needed. To apply to volunteer, all you need to do is go to the Arts Council website, fill out and application and mail it in.

Arc of Baton Rouge- The Arc of Baton Rouge is an early prevention center. Their mission is to improve the quality of life for children and adults with disabilities through services and support.

Baptist Association of Greater Baton Rouge-Be a part of the Baptist Association and help volunteer with the Food Pantry and Disaster Relief Ministry.

Baton Rouge Green-Become a member of Baton Rouge Green and volunteer with certain programs like: Baton Rouge Green Arbor Days, Programs For Children and Roadway Programs. Learn how to preserve, plant and maintain trees and forests.

Baton Rouge Labyrinth Project- This project is a volunteer effort to teach the Baton Rouge community about labyrinths and to work with public agencies to create community labyrinths.

Boys Hope Girls Hope- This organization helps academically capable and motivate children-in-need meet their full potential and become men and women for others by providing value centered, family like homes, opportunities and education through college

BREC Volunteer Program-BREC has many volunteer opportunities. You can volunteer at Magnolia Plantation Mound,Family Day at the Park, Rosies For All Kids Foundation, Sports and more.

Catholic Community Services-Volunteering for this organization allows them to serve ten thousands of individuals each year. They have short-term volunteer opportunities for individuals, groups and for young adults interested in a year-long, full-time commitment. They minister to others in these areas: adoption, counseling,maternity, senior employment,prison ministry, English classes, foster grandparents and emergency assistance.

EveryOne Counts- This program helps 2nd and 3rd graders who are below average in math skills. One on One tutors are called Math Friends. A Math Friend works with a student for 30 minutes once a week. This volunteer program is located at 4070 Tunica Street.

EveryBody Reads- This programs is committed to 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders in teaching them how to read. Volunteers must commit to one child for a year, 30 minutes a day and twice a month. It's also located at 4070 Tunica Street.

Forum 35- Forum 35 contributes it's time to a variety of projects and organizations. They work with community leaders to address important issues facing the greater Baton Rouge area.

Crisis Intervention Center- Volunteers are the foundation of the Intervention Center. They are looking for men and women over the age of 18 who want to help others help themselves. You would be volunteering to be a phone and info line counselor. Don't worry, they take the time to train you for your duties.

CAAWS Volunteer-Do you love animals? If you are an animal lover, volunteer for the furry ones. This organization needs help with Saturday Adoption, Vet Transport, Ferel Cat Work, Cat Video-ographer, evening dog shifts and morning dog shifts.

 Greater Baton Rouge Community Clinic-This is a non profit community that provides free dental, medical, mental health and visual services to our low-income working neighbors. Over 400 dentist and medical specialist donate their services to help the working poor lead healthier lives.

Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank- Come donate your time and efforts. Volunteers are the heart and the spirit of the Food Bank. Things they need help with are: sorting food, donating food, special events, share your computer skills, serve as an ambassador, assist with office duties, organize a food drive and sponsor a family in need.

Habitat for Humanity-Volunteer to rebuild and renovate houses within the community. Habitat provides opportunities for families in need to purchase their own home and improve their lives. This is a volunteer-drive organization. Come help build, assist in the office, work in the ReStore, serve on a committee or help with various projects.

Hands On Baton Rouge-They replace the traditional means of volunteering. Even though volunteering is an ongoing commitment they have flexible programs. Even the busiest person can volunteer at Hands On. They have projects this month that include: Arts & Crafts at Drusilla, Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, Katrina Victims and Quota International.

North Baton Rouge Woman's Help Center- This organization is dedicated to helping women in crisis. The best way you can help the Woman's Help Center is to donate.

Our Lady Of The Lake- At OLOL you will have an opportunity to select from different areas of the hospital and meet other volunteers and share your interests. Also, you can help by donating blood.

Pro Bono Law Volunteer Opportunities- This program offers a internship volunteer program for LSU law students.

Project Bark- Project Bark is a youth correctional program that pairs juvenile offenders with unwanted dogs from the Capital Area. They have training for the dogs twice a week and need volunteers for transport and more.

Race For The Cure-Race For The Cure is a organization that helps support those who have had breast cancer and trying to find a cure. They are always looking for volunteers to assist with special events.

Red Cross of Baton Rouge- The Red Cross always needs volunteer. Come help volunteer and be ready to help provide the community with disaster relief and lifesaving skills such as disaster preparedness.

Relay For Life-This is a signature event of the American Cancer Society and is a team event that promotes survivorship and increases cancer awareness in the Baton Rouge community.

Rural Life Musuem- They have a variety of volunteer opportunities. At the Rural Life Museum you can volunteer in the gift shop, with school tours, special events, clerical support, as gardeners, in collections, or as a junior docent. They have a variety of benefits from volunteering like free admission and discounts at the gift shop.

 Spaying & Neutering of Baton Rouge-This is a non profit organization that is dedicated to decreasing the number of companion animals euthanized in our community.

Stand Up For Kids-This is a volunteer program that helps children that are homeless. This is a new program. They are currently conducting volunteer training to get their outreach program underway. You can help by giving your time or money.

Toys For Tots Foundation- The Toys For Tots website provides  the community with information about the families in need , drop off locations, sponsorship, donations and volunteer support.  The website allows you to se how your gifts are being used. Donate a toy today and make a child smile.

The Millennium Fund- This program is always looking for dedicated volunteers to help them expand and maintain their outreach to the needy youth of Barbados/ You can help by volunteering your time and resources.

Walk MS- Walk MS is a fundraiser program for Multiple Sclerosis. There are a variety of ways to volunteer from helping with registration to cheering others at the finish line.
