Over the last week, I have observed 2 occasions that really made me stop and think. Both instances involved other people's firm beliefs against working for a living. I am not talking luxury here, just the basics.
Case#1: I read a quote on Facebook posted by a young girl. She quoted Ellen Goodman, "Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work, driving through traffic in a car that you are still paying for, in order to get to a job that you need so you can pay for the clothes, car and the house that you leave empty all day in order to afford to live in it."
Now, I get the general idea here, that working your tail in a circle is crazy. But, there is more to life. What's wrong with working a little, earning a little income to help you achieve your goals? Are they really suggesting it's better to just live under a bridge?
Case #2: Again, thanks to Facebook, I read a string of comments about people observed at a grocery store abusing food stamps. I don't think they are actually food stamps anymore, but something called an EBT card here in Oregon. Anyway, the woman was observed buying Skittles and other junk with our tax dollars. Really? Junk food on our dime? You're welcome.
It's just my two cents, but I think I will continue to work, for myself, and not free load off of the backs of other hard working Americans for Skittles.
