Superintendent Dr. Ann Roy Moore, Principal Dr. Jennifer Garrett, and special guests will officially announce today the acceptance of Columbia High as an International Baccalaureate School.
They will unveil a new sign in the school's lobby with the I.B. logo.
Columbia is only one of eleven schools in the state to be certified with an I.B. program
The International Baccalaureate Program (IB) is nationally and internationally recognized as the most rigorous and challenging academic curriculum leading to a high school diploma. The IB diploma is respected by universities around the world. Academically able and motivated students take courses in six subject areas, including foreign language, and meet the three core requirements: Theory of Knowledge course, CAS (150 hours of creativity, action, and service) and an extended essay (4000 word individual research project). The IB mission is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. More information regarding IB is available at http://www.ibo.org/.
