New Hampshire - April Fool's - Snowiest Winter in 100 Years

WINTER RETURNS        IT IS OFFICIALLY SPRING!                                       100 YEAR RECORD BROKEN

Today New Hampshire broke the record for most snowfall in one season in the last 100 years.

New Hampshire moved into second place as the snowiest winter, with a seasonal total of 115.2 inches.

     SNOW

If New Hampshire receives another 6.8 inches of snow, it will tie the all-time record of 122 inches which was set in 1873-74.  Snow fall records are kept in Concord.

This winter's season's snowfall  has broken several records for the snowiest winter in December, January and February -- which the National Weather Service calls "meteorolgical winter."

This is a list of the snowiest seasons with at least 100 inches of snow per the National Weather Service.

  • 1. 122.0 INCHES 1873/74
  • 2.  115.2 INCHES 2007/08
  • 3. 115.0 INCHES 1872/73
  • 4. 112.4 INCHES 1995/96
  • 5. 111.0 INCHES 1886/87
  • 6. 111.0 INCHES 1887/88 (tied)
  • 7. 103.2 INCHES 1898/99
  • 8. 103.0 INCHES 1874/75
  • 9. 100.0 INCHES 1875/76
  • 10. 100.0 INCHES 1971/72 (tied)

It was not all bad --    I stayed in bed till 8:00 a.m.

      I enjoyed some hot chocolate!

I spent the day sending emails to some of my past clients.

I made sure everything was ready for a closing on Monday.

I set up showings for Sunday.

FIRST SIGN OF SPRING     I just am waiting for the first signs of spring!   Oh, see, there is a sign.

It is going to be a good year for buyers and sellers in New Hampshire.

     We can take a joke!

I think we have set enough records for this year!

It is the 7th snowiest winter in Chicago. Ah, but of course we have the Lake to jump into for those Polar Bear enthusiests.

Tom~  I would think you get a good deal of snow in Wisconsin.  It is a beautiful state.  I went to camp there many years ago, and I have many happy memories.

David ~ I have spent a lot of time in the Chicago area and it can get quite a bit of snow as well.  I guess it has been a snowy winter there too!  I hope we have a beautiful spring.  I am looking forward to seeing the spring colors SOON!

Joan~  well, the best thing about the snow is that we didn't have to attend a long public policy meeting~  Here is where the tulip came from.spring boquet  A little "trick" photography!

Joan, that was a lot of snow for one year.  The people up there might not be happy about shoveling all that snow, but I bet the skiers were pretty happy.

03/28/2008 08:17 PM by George Souto (McCue Mortgage Co.)

George~  You are right !  The skiers love it!  However, my arms are ready to fall off!  I have to say that even some of my skiing friends admit they are ready for spring!  Let's get out the grill!

Joan - It has been a rather long long winter for you, with all the shovelling you are already in shape for spring.  When spring finally comes your way I am sure will will appreciate every moment.

Jennifer ~  I think we will survive.  New Hampshire was just named the most livable state - and 2d healiest state in the US so, I guess the cold climate and all the shoveling is paying off!

Beautiful winter pics Joan... we still have a ton of snow here as well, I can't wait for Spring to really arrive. I'm sooooooo tired of the winter thing.

Marti ~  When does spring come to Montreal.  I would love to get up there to visit.  My husband was there several years ago, but I have not.  I definately don't want to be there during winter!  Here is to spring.

Joan, Bluebonnets are in full bloom here in Texas.  No snow on the ground.  If you need to see some green, feel free to visit us.  I was in Chicago on Easter Sunday, so I finally got to see some snow again.  It was nice!

04/04/2008 04:40 PM by Nathan Cook (Classic Realty/GMAC Real Estate)

Nathan  ~  I am just about ready to take you up on your invitation to see the bluebonnets in full bloom in Texas!  The snow is finally starting to melt and I can see some ground here and there!  Maybe srping is on the way!    Please send some sunshine our way.

Hi Joan - Fun post with BEAUTIFUL pictures! You must enjoy your neck of the woods! I think we have hit some records in Michigan as well! It has been a long winter and spring is bursting at the seams! Mother Nature keeps cooling us down again and again though! A lifelong Michigan resident I am used to it but the sunny days we have had recently remind me that IT IS GOING TO HEAT UP!!!! (in more ways than one! Matter of fact, I think it is getting so hot we are melting the snow!!!)

A blessing to you for a fantastic spring!!!

Mary~ the attorney I worked with for many years, and one of my best friends are both from St. Joe Michigan.  They now live in San Francisco and do not want to have to deal with the snow!  I think it is heating up!  We definately are getting GREENER!  May you have a fantastic spring as well.  Thanks for your good wishes.

Christopher~ It is finally getting to be spring here in New Hampshire.  I think a visit to Austin would be nice -- I have been to various towns in Texas, but I missed Austin.

My husband is from New Hampshire and misses the change of seasons!  Guess he'll just have to settle for the rain in Seattle!

04/08/2008 09:46 PM by Carmen Tomlinson, King & Pierce Counties WA (Re/Max Select RE)

Carmen -- I guess we all have some sort of weather that is less than perfect!  Where did your husband live in New Hampshire?  If you come this way, just give a shout.
