Marketing Misfire
About a year and a half ago I bought a new website, and over the past few months have been doing many edits and SEO work. The good news? It's working! I'm on page 1 or 2 of google for a lot of different searches. Most of them are things I've targeted - and the targeting is going well. I first began targeting search terms with less than 2 million results, and once I figured out Google just a little bit more (it's always a moving target and I don't claim to be anywhere CLOSE to having it completely figured out), I started targeting broader terms - eventually, I got to page 1 or 2 for common search terms with even up to 20-25 million results. I'm happy!
Recently, though, I've learned that I come up in a lot of search terms that I DON'T want to come up in. I just got my 2nd call this week from someone trying to reach a mortgage servicing company, apparently with the name "JM loan servicing". My website, www.jmloans.com, is apparently making it pretty difficult for people with their loans serviced through JM to find the contact info and have the age old question of "where do I send my mortgage payment?" answered.
I tried to do some more detailed searches to help these people, and my website kept 'getting in the way' (I'm not complaining, this is a good problem to have). I think this is the point of SEO and maximizing your exposure, but I can't help but feel bad for people legitimately looking for info or worrying about where to send their payment and not being able to find it online.
Perhaps they should let me refinance their loan to a lower interest rate or better product, and then I'd know exactly where they can send their payment : )
