An Awkward Moment...The Listing Said "Needs TLC"
I always try to preview homes before showings, but sometimes it's just not possible. The post below describes one of those times. This house was a "hot mess" which according to my daughter, is not a good thing.
I was very upset to find what we did when we arrived. I contacted the listing agent to let him know my displeasure. I told him that he should have explained in the listing that there was no floor.
There's never a dull moment in real estate.

It was early on New Year's Day and we received a call to go show a property. The buyer was unrepresented and although it was a holiday, we didn't have any plans for the day (other than watching some football!). The home he wanted to see was on six acres in what I would call a "semi rural" area. We had not shown any homes in this section of our community and because we live on 5 acres, we were curious. We set the DVR to record the Rose Bowl Parade and said...let's go!
The property included a barn and some out buildings. The listing said it "needs TLC". Hmmm. To me that means it's a little rugged and could use some updating. Possibly even a little more than that. Little did I know.
We met the prospective buyer at the property and entered the house. It was vacant. We noticed immediately that some of the rooms had an odd tilt to them. I'm not talking about unusual decorating, I mean that they literally sloped a little from one side to the other! Uh oh.
Eventually we came to what was the double door entrance to the Master bedroom. As we opened the door I was totally unprepared for what we saw in front of us.
The floor had collapsed into the crawl space!
Where one would expect to see carpeting or some sort of flooring, there was a hole that went down about two feet. We looked at each other and I mumbled something almost incoherently about it being a "real fixer-upper". Ooops. I was aghast. AWKWARD!
After that, we all left the property. The prospective buyer's tailights got lost in the dust as he quickly sped away, barely avoiding the mailbox in his haste.
"Needs TLC"? More like it needed a B-U-L-L-D-O-Z-E-R.
