“Educating My Tenants to Become Homeowners”

I speak with every prospective tenant that is interested in renting from me. After reviewing credit and income, a conversation is a must. The conversation always ends up with a discussion on future home ownership, which will normally surprise most people.

I remember my conversation with Norman and Billy Jean very well, as they let me know that home ownership was not in the cards for them. They asked me why I was talking to them about home ownership? I told them, I am a big believer in home ownership and feel it is my responsibility to help anyone that wants to own a home.

Education and training

They had been a tenant if mine for a couple of years, when Norman stopped by my office and asked if I was serious about helping them work toward home ownership. I began coaching them, they already had a great payment history with me, excellent work history with Billy Jean, but they still had some challenges. He worked construction, which wasn’t always consistent. He has since decided to go to work for a company that paid less per hour, but provides him employment more consistent.

Over the next few months they will be ready to become homeowners and they continue to say to me, we have stopped saying “never”.

Good morning Bob. Thank you for the re-blog. This education process of tenants is something you know and understand very well and really pays off.
