Camera Recommendations Anyone?

I'm ready for a new camera and thought that the best recommendations would come from other agents in the Rain.  I want a camera that is simple to use but takes great pictures inside and out.  Preferably a 6-10 megapixel with at least a 4-6 optical zoom.

Who better to ask than my fellow real estate professionals.

Do not go cheap that is my advice. You need to spend at least $300 to get a good one. Olympus is a good lower end brand. But Canon and Nikon are probably the best quality. Most times with a camera you get what you pay for.

Hello Todd - We use a Cannon Rebel and the new ones are 10 megapixel.  If you go that route you should also look at wide angle lens.   You can make the smallest room look spacious, photos drive showings!

Todd,

It all depends on what you want the camera to do. Will you be using the pictures for your web site and the internet? Do you want high quality print images?

If the camera is to be used for real estate you don't need high resolution as monitors only display about 150 pixels per inch. Brochures and flyers only need about 300 dpi to look good.

If you want to print high quality photo images then you'll want cameras with mega pixel chips, high resolution and most importantly, a good lense.

Howdy Todd

One of the digital camera's that

I use is a Canon

EOS Rebel XTi.

I can change lens on it.

Comes in very handy.

Have a good one Dale

Hi, Todd - Camera choice very much depends on how you will use it.  You want quality and flexibility.  The four big brands with very high quality ratings are Nikon, Canon, Olympus and Pentax.  Almost all digital cameras now have between 6 and 10MP.  I have a Pentax istDS digital single lens reflect that works great, but I do more than real estate photography, and have lots of Pentax compatible lenses for other uses. Nikon, Canon and Olympus also make quality digital SLRs, with the Canon Rebel probably being the most popular right now. One technology you should look for in a new digital is vibration reduction, either in the lens or the camera body.  It will definitely improve image quality if you are not using a tripod (most realtors don't).  The big names all have vibration reduction, but not with every model.  If you want ease of use, compactness, and single lens to cover all situations, those four all have lower cost, non single-lens-reflex digital models, some with vibration reduction, that are way less than $500.  Good luck!

If you don't want DSLR and want a good lens try the Panasonic FX 35 with a 25 mm lens.  It is a point and shoot camera so you have to work harder to get inside pictures then you would with a more robust camera.

Nikon Rebel - hands down for the money.  Best pricing is at www.adorama.com    If you are not doing print, 8 megapixel is plenty and even overkill.   If you just want to take some photos for the web, that is a phenomenal camera.
