I must have a sign stapled on my back that reads..."LET YOUR DOG CHASE ME".  This is the 2nd time that I have been chased by a dogs while attempting to conduct business.  I have to say I am fed up with customers and their pets.

Please, don't get me wrong I am quite fond of dogs and cats...however enough is enough...

I went to a closing today and was feeling great...I go to ring the doorbell and heard what sounded like a herd of dogs.  So I prepared myself for the greeting by the dogs, you know the sniff greeting to allow you passage.

Well, I didn't get that, I got the jump, leap and knock down, beat down today...boy,,I didn't know I could get up and run as I did...heck I think I was hurdling over bushes...I can laugh now...but I surely wasn't earlier..I had nothing but rage in my heart....I manage to make it back to my car safely ...all out of sorts.

The borrower called me on my cell and had the nerve to say..."My dogs usually do not act like that...they are good dogs"...YEAH RIGHT! Did she really expect me to believe that?  She invited me to come back, so I asked if she had put her dogs away...her response was no...so I had ask...Ms. X, Do you really think that I would come back to your home only to be attacked again? She states, "the dogs were just being playful, they meant know harm".

I had to scratch my head on that one...so I asked Ms. X, to please put your dogs away or I will not be able to close your loan with you in your home...the lady became irate and demanded that I comeback...I refused too because she was unwilling to put her dogs away.  I called the title company and they were supportive of my decision.

What would you do? Do you put yourself at risk to close the deal?

I had dogs chase me once. I, too, can laugh about my ordeal now, but the day, it wasn't funny at all! If the seller wishes to have you (or other agents, for that matter) show her home, then she should put the dogs in the garage, out back, or make other arrangements.

I LOVE dogs (especially German Shepherds), but I am not fond of having them jump on me when I'm wearing my work clothes.

Glad your'e safe...

Oh my!  I am not a fan of big dogs, having been bitten by my neighbors yellow lab.  When he saw me, the hair on the back of his neck used to stand up and his tail would get rigid and I was scared to death of him.  My neighbors used to tell me it's because I was showing fear.  I had never been afraid of dogs before that dog.  He bit their babysitter.  Clean through her hand.  The wound was visible from the back of her hand and the front.  It wasn't until he bit their son that they finally had him put down.  He was a big dangerous dog.  I'm glad you didn't got back.  I'm an animal lover but some people just do not have any common sense.  I'm glad you are feeling better.

You should never have to put yourself at risk. I think you did the right thing. I would have asked them to meet me at a coffee shop if she wanted to continue with the signing.

Hi Diego,

I attempted to ask,  however, she became very hostile.  At that point, I felt that enough was enough....I don't think too many people would of even attempted to continue with the closing, however I did.  My efforts, I feel were in vain...chased by dogs, not worth, scraps and bruises, not worth it, torn clothing, not worth it,..

I'm neither pro nor con of pets.  I had them as a kid, including a rabbit.  But, I see pet owners walking their animals and not pooper-scooping the dripping their dog leaves behind.  I've notice recently name individuals with animals that ride in their arms as they drive.  This makes me very nervous, especially from older senior citizens.

I think there should be a law against driving with unrestrained pets in a car.  I’m considering asking my city council to adopt such a law, as animals under your arms can get in your way of stopping or turning or cause an accident.  I know it is law against not cleaning us behind your pet, but to enforce it you probably have to make a citizen arrest.

Once the other party see you’re serious then (like calling the police) that could create a confrontation that could cause violence.  I wish pet owners would act in responsible ways, as everyone does not feel the same about animals as they do.

It is okay for your dog to jump on you, but it is not okay for your dog to jump up on me.  If comes down to respect for the wishes and interest of others.  I remember my mother as a child and some one would say this dog doesn’t bite; her reply was does he have teeth?

I only wish we respected our children as much as people do animals.  Some take better care and give more love to animals than children.  Would not the world be a better place?

The words of Rodney King rings loud in my ears about now, “can’t we all get along”!

I had a similar incident about 2 months ago, with a very large dog coming down a set of stairs and the fence below was very short.  I made haste to get back into my car, as I wanted no part of that animal.  The client knew I was coming, as I was getting directions from her after I got off the freeway.

You hit it on the nail...customers are aware that we are coming to conduct business,,,like you said it alright if they like their pets jumping up on them but it's not alright to jump on me...be considerate...I understand that we are providing a service in which meet people at their preferred location, however, that doesn't mean that we should have to be accepting of conditions that may put us risks...

Ive had a bad experience once with a borrowers dog.  It was a day it had been raining so you can see where this might be going.  The dog initially jumped on my car with his muddy feet.  I sat in my car, waiting for the borrowers to do something(they were outside at that moment).  I got out of my car and he jumped on me.  I looked at the borrowers and they yelled at him to get down.  He did after several commands.  We continued into the house, he jumped again and again.  They kept telling him to stop and he would temporarily, and then jump again.  He wasnt hurting me, he was quite friendly.  But he had muddy paws and I was annoyed with the owners not taking control of this.  From that day on, I decided I was going to take control of the dog if they did this and the owners had no bearing on the animal.

I am a animal lover and animals love me.  Ive had several animals come up to me at closings and the borrowers are in shock because usually the animal is very shy and never approaches strangers.  I believe they are to be respected.

Some Mobile Agents carry treats along with them and if the dog is out of control, they ask the owners if a treat is ok.  To date, my method has worked, but I wouldnt recommend it if you dont like animals, they know this and just might bite you instead of listening.

Hi Lisa,

That is food for thought, thanks...I never thought of that.  I am a frim believer of having a proactive approach.  Dogs tend to love snacks, howwever, that act of giving a treat may cause them to keep coming back...I just have a problem with rewarding bad behavior, however I will consider that approach.

Owners usually are aware that their dogs have aggressive traits and just should put them away out of courtesy.

Thanks, again...

Every where I have been the owners put the dogs up.

I can not believe these people did not.

I had a signing where upon me leaving 2 beagle dogs...really muddy ones at that, pushed through my legs and jumped into my NEW CAR when I opened the door and I couldn't get them out!  They were really nice dogs though, howling and wagging their tails in the front seat. They were wanting to go with me, no matter what!  It wasn't fun, I have to say.  The borrowers told me that they saw the dogs hanging out by their house all day.  They were just rearing to go!

I get this all the time, my dog usually does not do that. Yeah right! I wrote a blog regarding my first field inspection experience. I played it safe and refused to get out of my car when a big dog was pacing the property. I called the company, explained the situation and they understood. I was on vacation strolling along the beach and a pack of dogs chased us. I never learned how to swim, but I headed for the water. I would rather drown than to get eaten by dogs. I have never had a client refuse to secure their pet.

Mary Ellen:  I often wonder why people do what they do, but we have the power to except or not to except...

Cheryl Lee:  Dogs gone wild, wow!

Jacqueline:  I feel your pain, swimming isn't high on the list for things I can do, however I would be there with you. Years ago, when I went to elementary school during recess, I got bit by a dog multiple times and had to go to ER, so I remember the ordeal as if it was yesterday.  It was not fun at all.  I was very shocked by this client's behavior.
