Georgetown is full of history, with some of the homes dating back to colonial times. But for many of my clients, Georgetown is about the present.
Typically, we’re looking for an historic home. And while it might date back to the 1700’s, it’s got to have systems, kitchens and baths that are thoroughly modern.
When you are house hunting in Georgetown, there are some factors that have a big impact on both the prices of the homes, and to the quality of your life there:
- Off-street parking makes your life in Georgetown a lot easier than if you have to park on the street. Even though there are restrictions for non-residents who want to park on the street, you can get home at night to find the hydrants all taken. So off-street parking at home is huge
- Georgetown homes come in all shapes and sizes. Of course, the smaller homes with tiny rear gardens sell for a fraction of the cost of a larger home, especially if there is more than a postage stamp yard behind the big house.
- The extent and quality of the renovations also makes a big difference in each home’s value. There are homes that need a bunch of work. They’ll have indoor plumbing and electricity, but the fridge might have legs. But the thing they all have in common is that during any renovations you do, there will be major surprises. It’s part of the charm.
Currently, there are 25 homes for sale in Georgetown, including one place that is a commercial property with living space upstairs. The prices range from a low of $799,000 for a small house near the Potomac to $11,000,000 for a mansion that John Mason (George Mason’s nephew) built in 1797. And it’s just beautifully renovated.
