Probably the last time I will be able to say this this year!

1972 Oakland A's

My favorite team, the one I have been rooting for for almost 40 years is tied for the best record in baseball. As of today March 28,2008 they are tied with the World Series Champion Boston Red Sox.

I am looking forward to the start of the 2008 season even though all the experts pick the A's to finish at or near the bottom. I think the A's may surprise a few people this year, and at the very least they will be entertaining.

UPDATE: While the A's may not have the best record in baseball any longer they are still in first place. As of today April 23,2008 they are tied with the Angels atop the division. It's going to be a fun year.

Every new season is a season of hope. Everyone starts out with a clean slate and has an equal chance. Those 70's A's teams were powerhouses. They beat my '73 Mets!

I don't know how they do it. Seems lately they field teams no more impressive than a rowdy beer-league softball team and they still manage to contend. And why is it that my Mariners get so intimidated by them?

JIM- Thanks for the comment. Yes those were some great teams.

Glenn - It does seem like Oakland always seems to find the young budding stars or pick up that veteran player that is the right fit. I think they are going to be better this year than most people think.
