On a sunny Spring day my husband took a drive to a home/office in Kailua to fix a pc and he described the owner to me as a kind older gentleman. When the work day was over my husband brought home a 'sampler bag' of five different types of cookies that the kind gentleman had given to him from his store. I have had to cut my sugar intake although I decided to 'treat' myself and to let the little bite size buggers melt in my mouth....one by one...equals....four.. oops!

Do you remember Wally Amos?  Wally Amos was the founder of the Famous Amos Chocolate Chip Cookie although over the years circumstances changed and he now is back in the kitchen baking cookies in his "Chip & Cookie" store in Kailua, Hawaii (on the windward side of our island, Oahu). His wife of over 30 years, Christine Harris-Amos created two dolls, Chip & Cookie, made to look like male/female chocolate cookies and they also have an array of items for sale as well.

Wally has such a wonderful history full of inspiration and positive messages including: Growing up in Tallahassee, Florida until the age of 12, he moved to New York to live with his aunt. He then went in the Air Force and then on to opening his first cookie store called Famous Amos Chocolate Cookie Store on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, California where he became an instant celebrity. An inspiration speaker and a life of a positive attitude ...it's no wonder he is still living an inner strength life at the age of over 70! Read more on Wally's history here: ABOUT WALLY.

With a positive attitude, Wally lives in Kailua, Hawaii and has lived by the principles of "work hard, stay positive and don't look back". He and his wife founded the Chip & Cookie Read Aloud Foundation a 501(c) non profit organization to promote the Reading Aloud Program for Children. He has received the President's Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence, the Horatio Alger Award and Outstanding Business Leader Award.

With his inspiration speaking engagement he tries to show you how to "turn your lemons into lemonade" because he says, "Life is an inside job". I love it!  Success is from the inside out!

With a very Positive Attitude for life he has also authored the following books:

  • The Famous Amos Story: The Face That Launched a Thousand Chips
  • The Power in You: Ten Secret Ingredients To Inner Strength
  • Man With No Name: Turn Lemons Into Lemonade
  • Watermelon Magic: Seeds of Wisdom, Slices of Life
  • The Cookie Never Crumbles: Inspirational Recipes for Every Day Living,
  • Be Positive, Be Positive!: Insights Into How To Live A Joy-filled and Inspiring Life
  • The Power of Self-Esteem: How To Discover And Fulfill Your Life Dreams
  • Live An Inspiring Life: Ten Secret Ingredients for Inner Strength.

After reading his story, I plan on buying all his books so I can grab his zest for life and apply it in mine.

A success story working from the inside out; this life story of Wally Amos is just "proof positive" that the rewards surely start and lie from .......'within'.

Sally, I love Famous Amos cookies too, but haven't had them in some time.  The smell of fresh chocolate chip cookies cooking is one of the most enticing scents.  It's a good thing they don't bottle it and make it into a perfume -- I'd always be hungry!  (don't read too much into that statement...)

Woo Hoo! Success is from the insight out. What a profound statement. I wish Harvard and the institutions of higher learning could understand this principle. Our world would be so much better.

Sally-I came looking for a Movie Review...saw the Photo and thought ahhhh cookies :)  But this is so much more than that....as you stated, his philosophy is so in tune to the way that you lead your life, run your group, and manage your own business.  Destiny.....it's destiny that Gary went there and brought back not just a few chocolate morsels for you, but wonderful validations from someone else that lives their life with the same Positive Attitude that you do....from the Inside Out.

I am happy you had this experience (even if it was second hand)  But hey, you can always drive over there and meet him one day :)
