Elevating PlayWith a slowness in the real estate market year over year too many I hear in the industry look to outside circumstances to change when they could be doing so much more to change their inside.

Market forces will be what they will be but the cream of the crop in any industry will rise during adversity. If a plan can be devised during these tougher times it holds the opportunity to take your play to the next level.

                          TO ELEVATE YOUR GAME

Many call for a return to fundamentals in prospecting and lead generation along with constant contact with our network. How about learning new ways to interact with prospective clients by using more and more technology available over the Internet like video, widgets, advanced mapping tools, neighborhood market information, etc.? What about the old fashioned telephone call to past clients to see how they are doing?

There are an endless list of inexpensive continuing education classes from everything from RESPA and the new FHA programs to how to set up blogs, listings on Craigslist, and advanced Publisher tips and tricks.

Those that love what they do are constant learners and are invaluable to their clients.

Strive to always get better. Practice, practice, practice. You know you still have gobs of room for improvement.

Elevate Your Game!!!

The desire to learn more is always paired with something we all love doing, I like how you point that out in your post.  Also, many people look for the latest new thing to get business but I agree, going back to the basics of real estate is what everyone should be doing!  I need to elevate my game!!

You are correct. Its been more time to do my blog, improve my site, start a workout program, and much more. I am happy selling 3 per month this year and have mmore fun doing it. Since Katrina I have worked my ass off as I expected a downturn for different reasons.

Most of you guys have undamaged homes to sell and do not have to rebuild a city. Its not the easy things in life that are fun. Gary check out my new blog New Orleans Condo Trends. Active Rain has been a good teacher.

Patricia: Connecting passion with thirst for learning I think is key. But you are right if you were in a field you disliked you probably wouldn't see the point in growing more in it.

Eric: Active Rain is great as a teacher. I know you have been working hard since Katrina. Finding your niche I'm sure has helped you too. I'll check out the new blog of yours. Thanks for passing by again.

Gary, that is some great advice.  We do have to practice at being the best we can be in our profession.

Gary, everyone is willing to learn more about something they are passionate about, so true!

One funny thing about practice is they say if you brag about how good you are it is not bragging if you can back it up. That's got to put a smile on your face for all your hard work paying off.

Gary, always learning, the video was excellent, not sure who it is but the point is well taken. In my opinion the fundamentals are the the root of the tree, and new technology is the limbs. We need both.

Gary--There is always something to learn during the slow times....Stay focused on becoming a better agent so when the leads start turning into clients you are refreshed and armed with new ideas. Good positive post!

I'll go back to school and do something else and I did,  but guess what ? I'm here today ..this is what I love to do. I realize that this is my destiny I'll never be good at something else ..Have e great weekend !!!!

Gary - Some agents do need to stop complaining and elevate their game. I am finding that I don't have to go back to basics. My pipeline is looking good, sometimes I wish it would slow down, but as they say - careful what you wish for. Although the market is challenging, I never lost my sales ranking last year...of course, I didn't make my numbers but neither did a lot of other agents. I might have taken a pay-cut but I am happy to have at least kept my sales ranking. If I elevate my game right now I might be taking on more than I can really handle. I feel very blessed in this challenging market - I know it's not such a rosy picture for others.
