Seattle: Do We Really Like Our Coffee? YES YES YES

Thinking about moving to Seattle and wondering if we really are nuts over our coffee?  It is true!  We are...apparently.  I am usually not in want of a coffee stand because I can find on in Seattle or Seattle suburbs on many active intersection corners.  All of these coffee places have a whole array of drinks they can make me from a normal drip coffee in some places to a latte or mocha or even some whipped frozen varieties.  I take these for granted, I guess.  I shouldn't because it is a real luxury to be able to have your coffee drink exactly how you want it.

Here is my normal drink:

16 ounce iced soy pumpkin pie sauce latte with only one shot of coffee

seattle suburbsMy parents live out in a gorgeous but not so "busy" part of Arizona.  It is eight miles to a Starbucks.  I tried to just drink drip this morning and finally started to cave around noon.  You see, in Seattle, by noon I would have had at least two of my special Pumpkin Pie Lattes, and it was getting tough.  At noon I announced that I was going into town to get a latte and my mother said I should try the new little coffee cart at the clubhouse down the street...She even offered to call and see if they had soy milk.  She did to find out that not only did the lady not know what soy milk was, she really didn't offer anything more than the equivalent of a drip coffee...yuck.  I thanked my mother for trying and started out the door again.  My mother then stated that we would be going to dinner in town and that I could get one then....at 5PM. Say What?

Today I realized that I am a true hardcore Seattle coffee drinking snob and I am happy about it.  We don't all drink coffee in Seattle, but people that do drink coffee here are quite accustomed to getting it how they want it and expect nothing less when traveling.  So, if you are thinking about moving here, know that we do drink coffee and we are very proud of our coffee culture!

Coffee was one of the reasons I moved to Seattle....it's hard to enjoy a cup of hot coffee when it's 80 degress outside!

Personally I like home made with a Bialetti and a steamless milk frother and chocolate sauce.

I wonder it if was caffeine withdrawal you were experiencing.  Starbucks (not sure about other Seattle shops) has a much higher caffeine content than regular coffee. Regardless, enjoy your coffee!

Side note- I recently read about the history of Starbucks (hint it's not the original chain) you might find interesting. Of course, it came out just before Starbucks announced it's struggles and revamping plan.

Deborah - I think it was at least 85 yesterday!  I drink Iced lattes even in freezing winter - I just prefer them..

ARDELL - LOL - that is awesome!  See we aren't picky now are we???  I am resigned to the fact that even though it will be roughing it, I will have to bring along my own make at home coffee supplies including straws next time I go out of sttate for ANY period of time.

Teresea - try driving through Salt Lake City on the way up north - I think there might be something like two Starbucks in the whole town - we did that a year ago...there was absolutely no coffee - beautiful city, though:)

Vanessa - I will check out that article:)  I actually don't prefer Starbucks - I like local mom and pop joints instead for the best coffee in Seattle..  I will tell you that when I am out of town and in AZ especially - I will run to a Starbucks and kiss the ground, though.  I just hope to find a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf first because they are so much better!

It's not just Seattle!  Starbucks finally migrated across the Sound, I think there are four in Silverdale, two in Bremerton.

Thanks for making me crave my nonfat grande chai latte.  I was doing so well staying away from Starbucks!

Everyone has to have a passion.  Ours just happens to come in tall, grande and vente.  Further proof of the addiction is U Village.  A medium sized outdoor boutique mall area with no fewer then 6 barista's or coffee shops.  Three of which are Starbuks.  I would write more, but my latte is getting cold.
