Don't forget that tonight is Earth Hour in Chicagoland--Turn out those lights!

If you're in Chicago this evening and it suddenly goes dark, don't worry!  Chicago will make history this evening by being the "flagship" city in the United States for Earth Hour. The reason the World Wildlife Fund chose our city is because our iconic skyline, Mayor Daley is very involved in going GREEN, and because our population has a sense of community. Chicago is going black to go green!  More than 60 cities worldwide will be participating in Earth Hour, tonight from 8 to 9PM.  There are over 160 buildings in Chicago that are taking part in "lights out".  Schools, churches, hotels and restaurants are all participating...from the city to the suburbs.

They will be showing the dark skyline "LIVE" on www.nbc5.com

They are hoping people all over the area will take part in Earth Hour this evening by turning out lights, turning off their computers and shutting down their cell phones.

Hopefully everyone will participate in this event tonight!

Laura - This sounds like a great way to make a statement.  Hopefully the idea will spread in a big way!

Joseph- That is the whole reason they are doing this.  To bring an awareness of global warming and energy conservation.  Thanks for your comment.

Lu- This is the 2nd year for "earth hour".  Last year it occurred in Australia only.  This year there are more participants with Chicago (in the United States) leading the cause.  It's a great city!

Empire state building turned black tonight and then green to honor the global warming commitment. Lights out in New Zealand and the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge.  This apppears to be a long term contribution to the environmental cause.
