Bee Balm

The Bee Balm is a lovely summer flowers which is available in a variety of colors.  In my garden I have the pink but will add the red next spring.

Bee Balm

So far it seem to grow well in sun and partial shade.   It will grow between two to four feet.  I read somewhere that in really good soil it can become invasive, I think that is the case in my garden.  Maybe I should cutback on the use of compost.

This plant attracts butterflies and hummingbirds, and of course bees as can be seen in this photo. Did you spot the bee?

Monday's Flower - Bee Balm

Bee Balm  is a versatile plant.  The leaves makes a fragrant tea, and is also used as a mint substitute in salads.  The flower is a nice addition to a floral arrangement since it has such tall stems.   It is also used for medicinal purposes.

If you have Bee Balm in your garden, enjoy, if not, this is a perennial you might consider adding.

Haven't seen this variety of plant before. Must be an up north flower. Like the butterflies and hummingbirds.

I'm interested that it can be used as a mint substitute in salads.  I'll have to try planting some.  My mint never does that well.
