Giving to my Lake Sinclair community... & asking others to do the same

Over my adult life I have done several things to "give back" to my community.

One thing is that I have taught a children's Sunday School class for over 25 years now.  I dedicate my Sunday morning to giving to children that attend my church and live in this community.  Many times I focus on what they as children to can to spread goodness and compassion among our community. Right now I have one that is seeming particularly hard to reach to understand this.  My sweet Donald pointed out to me on Sunday that I just can NOT give up.

For years I was involved in the Pilot Club of Eatonton.  The specific focus was brain disorders.  We worked our tails off for one giant annual community event fund raiser and then give lots of money back to our community.  Bicycle helmets for needy children, car seats for needy families, scholarships annually, and funds for Alzheimer's patient and care giver care.  That's a disease that is very personal to me.  Not only did I loose a former agent who worked for me who was also a dear friend, my former broker and mentor has Alzheimer's.

A few years ago I helped with a non profit start up.  And if you have have never served on the board of a non profit trying to get a 501C approved then you should.  I served as the secretary and just keeping the minutes of our meetings was very time consuming.  We held a huge community event and donated all the funds we made to help send children with juvenile diabetes to camp to learn to manage their disease. It was a huge success.  After three years I didn't have the time to dedicate to continue with being on the board so I resigned, but I certainly continued to support them financially and spiritually.  I still run into board members from time to time and always let them know they still have my support and prayers.

And last, but certainly not least is my support of the local animal shelter and humane society.  I just can't go and dog walk... I would have more than 5 furry babies in my house if I did.  But I do take them donations several times a year and I certainly spend some of my social media time advocating adoption.  I've also had strangers who visit the area read some of my posts and one actually called me to help get the word out when her dog broke free from it's leash on a walk and she was looking for it.  I had a ton of folks in that neighborhood out looking (one of which found her scared dog) within a few hours.  I love animals and I give as much as I can.

I know that you have a great heart.  And, Donald is right about that kid....you will find a way to reach into his soul.  Every kid wants love and wants to be accepted.  Actually, everyone wants that.  You will find a way,  You do so much in your community, Tammy, to make it a great place, from picking up trash to caring for animals at the Humane Socitety and all the other great projects you have been involved with.  I would just love to meet you!
