I have a crazy personality. I get on these whims. When I think of something that I want to do I jump in HEAD FIRST!!! I am like a machine and once I get started I won't quit until I accomplish my goal. Not a bad thing...I suppose, especially in real estate!
Well, I am finally relieved to say that I have found my happy Active Rain balance. When I first really got "into" Active Rain, it (I) was crazy. My life was a blog...I mean, blur. I even wrote a post about my addiction called "Blog, blog...everywhere a blog, blog!". I even saw the word blog everywhere I looked which was evident in my serious, turned comical post.
The funniest thing I ever saw was this video. I was told it has been around the block a million times but I had not seen it. So for all of you who are new to Active Rain and feel you may be finding yourself addicted to blogging, check out this HILARIOUS video!
My next goal was to pass the 35,000 point mark and I did that not too long ago. Now, I am here to relax, enjoy and play in the rain. It's all about fun now. I am so excited. Now I can post when I want to post and read when I want to read. No more self-inflicted pressure.
My state has AMAZING bloggers that I am comfortable not trying to catch up too! They deserve their current ranking and I don't intend to even TRY taking it away ever! In fact I love reading and learning from their posts. I am just here to network, learn, and inform consumers about my real estate market.
Like Monika McGuillicuddy described in her recent postabout bloggers being transparent, "Be yourself and let that inner voice be heard, let it shine through." This is my intension for Lake Winnipesaukee News and Views-Real Estate Blog! If you read my blog you will find the real me. I still love blogging, to say the least. But now, it isn't so much about the competition- it's about just writing because I love it!

I know what you mean about your life being a blog. LOL. Everything that happens has the potential to become a future blog. Unfortunately, it's like an assembly line with Lucy and Ethel - the ideas come so fast half of them are lost before I get them written, cause LIFE keeps interfering with my BLOG! LOL
Kim - I have seen that video before, but it still resonates with me and makes me laugh. The guy is so serious. As for me, I am probably too competitive. I am currently # 2 in the state of Texas, but I want the # 1 spot now.
Jason- GEEZ- Texas is a big state! Be proud #2, be proud! But yes, I can see it, if you are that close then good luck to you! You will do it. I am going to go check your point spread! :) The guy is serious and I am sure you have been there. It cracks ME UP!!! I showed it to my husband and he just smiled... If you are not a blogger you just don't get it!!!
Kim, good for you. I too was a little obsessive at first, but it's all settled down and I'm now in a relatively comfortable routine w/ the whole thing Whew! My husband is relieved ;-)
I am also new to AR and have been a little obsessed with blogging, but I've tried to remain true to who I am and comment on blogs I like, or have something important to say. As for writing blogs I've tried to avoid "just writing for the sake of points", but I have to admit I keep watching my point total and who is around me!
I want to be number 1 in PA...I've only got about 60,000 points to go..
Let's see....at 1000 points per week for blogs, with a maximum of 250 comment points per day...that is 2250 per week...that will take me almost SIX MONTHS! And of course by then, the people already at the top will have more points...dear LORD how can I do it...
Congrats on you meeting your goal! I finally reached mine and am comfortable at my spot. I just don't want to slack because I don't want anyone to pass me up. :) You're right, the ones that are number one totally deserve to be there and I'm not going to even try to take that spot!
Lisa - Sounds like you're content to stay where you're at for awhile. Now that you've built a solid content, are you finding that you're being contacted? Is your website getting hits? Are you getting a phone call or two a week? Just wondering.... this can be so addicting, and great to hear the success stories.
Lindsay- We certainly don't want to slack- no time for that!!! But it is a nice feeling just coming here for fun rather than being obsessed with it!!! :)
Kim, blogging is fun but I've got to earn a living too. With Lindsay hot on my trail for the #1 spot in East Baton Rouge parish (aka county for the rest of the country) what's a guy to do? I think it will be a while before anyone supplants Eric in the #1 spot in Louisiana.
Hi Kim, I totally relate to what you are saying. I have only been here a short time and think I am having blogging issues. I believe I am getting it down to a system/part of my life and not a total lifestyle.
I think once you settle into a blogging grove it all comes together as you have discovered. When I joined AR there were about 25 NH bloggers and like you I made little goals for myself.
I remember passing people by and when I realized that they were just standing in place I couldn't believe it. Ann always was way ahead and I made the mistake of starting 2 profiles here. I never could combine them without creating a major loss of points for all the people who had commented on them. So basically I just sunsetted one profile. That profile ranks # 7 in the state. I'm sure you'll soon pass that one by and who knows you may pass my # 2 one day. Joan W. was # 2 for awhile and Jay was # 2 for a long time. So that number 2 spot has had some movement.
I just enjoy Blogging and believe in it. My outside blog is going gangbusters...I'm a happy blogger.
I agree it is definitely addicting. I came across your blog when I was recouperating from knee surgery back in January. I am still new and learning but watching you and Monika has surely helped. Hope all is well at the new office.
Don - sounds like you have some serious blogging to do in order to reach #1. Tough choice - blog or earn a living! LOL.... from what I hear one will lead to the other! :)
Monika- Your welcome! You can keep #2!!! Hopefully I will pass your # 7 since it is inactive- LOL! I am just happy I am not looking and obsessing everyday. I just like being here, because I like being here. I can't say though if someone was on my heals I wouldn't pick up the pace.....I would. I did like your post though (and then Colleens, which has inspired me!). I have always loved to write and thought a lot about going into journalism in college. I rather write, then talk. My preference is to email, rather than call... but I am improving.
Hey Monique- thanks for the comment... are you fully recovered? I am THRILLED with CB- WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! and so many people told me the grass wasnt greener......HA!
Kim...I think you need to keep in mind who you want to talk to and what that message is. I also belive one can over write...too many posts will stop people from coming back. So those that post just to post and climb in points will ulitimly lose out. I know I've stopped reading some bloggers becasue they have way too many daily posts and many of them are boring posts. Just my 2 cents.
Sounds like you have found your blogging balance, it seems like a cycle we all go through when we first start blogging. We gt caught up in trying to reach the top spots, we walk around thinking in the blog. We write about our addiction and then one day we wake up in complete control of it all. LOL! I think you do a fabulous job! :)
Kim - this is so funny. I had never seen the video before now, but I hope that isn't how I become. I do ind myself obsessing a little about how I can fit this into my schedule everyday. Congrats on achieving your goals!
KIM - I had to take 2 minutes away from blogging to watch that whole clip. Gotta get back to blogging. Glad to see that you've found your comfort zone after all of the garbage that you've had to deal with.
Good for you Kim. I enjoy reading your blog along with other favs here in AR. I too had the blog addiction when I started and to some extent I still have it but I am no linger feeling pressured to do xyz each and every day.
Great video...I hadn't seen that one either! I appreciate this blog because as I read your post I realized I am goign through the same early stages you were going through...I set some small goals and started seeing more results and now I talk blogging throughout my entire office. I really like your blog simple because your personality DOES come through in the blog. It turns a static/passive agent business card into a person and we all know real estate is about people not little cards.
Keep up the great blogging Kim and thanks for the inspiration.
Team Wright- I know the feeling I think when I first started every other word that came out of my mouth was blog!!! It is funny how some agents are drawn to it and some want no part of it!!! Happy Blogging... you will get through the initial obsession, just like everyone here on AR told me I would...and I did!
Kim...it's great to know balance will come someday after the addiction....LOL Congrats on meeting your goals and being able to relax and have fun with it now!
