Have You Taken The Patience 101 Class? Here It Is

By

OrderOne of my huge weaknesses I have always had with being a hyper and a control person has been with PATIENCE. That being said I have in real estate and in LIFE had to practice PATIENCE to an incredible extent.

Here is your little Patience 101 class to get better.

I start by saying I have been cursed with tangled fishing line and the longest lines to wait in of everyone at WalMart. Transactions in real estate that defy common sense the many ways they go off track. But year by year I get stronger in my weakest suit. The lessons:

  1. It is not entirely true that patience is a virtue. It can be an aggravation
  2. The best things come to those who wait. Not always. They can be scraps but you have to hustle up front and then see what happens.
  3. Do some diversions in your life clicking off the time when you are not making progress towards your goal. Music and goofing around with your smartphone come to mind.
  4. The graphic reminds us patience is also about order, NOT just this huge chunk of time you sit through. Expectations lead to disappointment so lower them. You don't know everything.
  5. Patience is TOTALLY about the unfolding of the petals on a rose as a visual. You water it, give it warmth, sunshine, and YET it does not unfold NOW, maybe even being a late bloomer.
  6. SO how do you become the best at patience? You give up control. Yes this is surrender, but this is GOOD SURRENDER for your sanity. You don't WAIT for things to happen, you make them happen BUT the key is you provide the stimulus, the hard work, THEN you let the unfolding occur IN ITS TIME, with all the zig zag obstacles thrown in your path, so in one word here at graduation of your PATIENCE CLASS it is about.......
  7. ACCEPTANCE

Now that you have your class in patience you will also find a very important side benefit of NOT forcing a square peg into a round hole, or rolling a boulder up a hill. INNER PEACE.

A TIME FOR EVERYTHING!!

Ah, so much easier said than done.  Great points to practice though.

When I see people pushing and shoving to get in line I step back and think to myself is there enough for everyone and also what am I going to do when I get inside just sit and wait anyway.

Gary interesting....I see the whole journey as an adventure. Just because things don't look the way I think they should doesn't mean they might not turn out fantastic or much better perhaps.....ahhhhhhhhhhhh relax!

I do meditate but perfection is not an option. If my patience wears thin I try to make sure I channel righteous anger instead of impotent rage.

Hi Gary,

As you have probably figured out John and I both are type A+.  Which has its good and bad advantages.  I am sending this link over to his page to ensure it catches his eye.  As always thank you for putting things into perspective.

I used to think one of the best things about being married was when my ex-husband would wait in line at the stores while I ran about and moved onto the next thing. Waiting in lines is one of my top things in life which I hate with a passion! Fortunately, he didn't mind.

Hello Gary ... after spending 12 long years with my very large Burmese family, I have learned all the patience I will ever need. They taught me well whether I wanted to learn or not. Love your post ...

What can we do for you today?

Patience not as easy as one can hope for sometimes but it can pay off in the end I have been looking for a new car for over 18 months and it finally came to be yesterday. So patience can be a good thing hold on have faith and it will work out
