RED ROCKS PARK AND AMPITHEATRE, MORRISON, COLORADO

RED ROCKS PARK AND AMPITHEATRE, MORRISON, COLORADO is the only "naturally occurring, acoustically perfect amphitheater in existence in the world".   Red Rocks Park was originally called Garden of Angels and is a geological phenomenon formed by Mother Nature over 250 million years ago.  It sits at 6,450 feet above sea level and is 868 acres of towering red sandstone rocks and is located 10 miles west of Denver.

Dinosaur tracks and fossil fragments from the Jurassic period of 160 million years ago can be seen along with all forms of plant and animal life while experiencing breathtaking views of ancient times.  Red Rocks was formed by the gradual movement of the earth slowly raising the great sandstone ledges.  Some of the rock formations tilt backwards while some slope 90 degrees and are taller than Niagara Falls.  RED ROCKS PARK AND AMPITHEATRE, MORRISON, COLORADO was once among the Seven Wonders of the World.

Some of the first concerts were performed on a temporary stage in the early 1900’s.  Soon after, plans were made to construct the current stage while preserving the natural beauty of the area.  The Amphitheatre was dedicated on June 15, 1941 and the first annual Easter Sunrise Service took place in 1947.  Easter Service is always the first performance of each season.

It has attracted the attention of the best performers to its stage from opera to rock and was likely used by the Ute tribe in even earlier times.  The earliest notable rock performance was by The Beatles on August 26, 1964, and was the only sold out concert on their US tour.  There was a five year ban on rock concerts after an incident by fans during a performance by Jethro Tull on June 10, 1971.  It took legal action by concert promoter Barry Fey to lift the ban.

There are many events happening at RED ROCKS PARK AND AMPHITHEATRE, MORRISON, COLORADO now, including movies, yoga, art exhibits, dance festivals, comedy festivals and more.  There is also a restaurant, Red Rocks Grill, offering a delectable menu and stunning scenery and a Visitors Center with a Trading Post where visitors can purchase unique souvenirs.

Yoga On The Rocks is a very popular event with four sessions beginning on July 26th, and they are already sold out.  Red Rocks Fitness Challenge runs from mid May through mid July and offers a team of Denver's finest fitness coaches challenging participants to improve their health and wellness.  Film On The Rocks is in its 15th season and has eight movies scheduled throughout the season.  But the concerts are the biggest draw with performances almost every night of the week.  "There is no better place to see the stars".

I was fortunate enough to travel to Morrison Colorado this last summer with my family and watch a concert at Red Rocks Ampitheatre. It was a wonderful experience to say the least.
