Best Mountain Towns for Retirees

Now that you've said "goodbye" to the daily grind and the punching of time clocks, you can live anywhere you want. So where would you most like to spend your time now that you're retired? If you are a lover of mountains and outdoor recreation, Steamboat Springs, CO is the perfect place for you.

Recently MarketWatch.com named Steamboat among it's top 10 Great Mountain Towns for Retirees. The article references our awesome snow, we call it "champagne powder", opportunities for skiing, river sports, biking, hiking and ample sunshine. All of those things are true and certainly great draws for retirees but what it doesn't mention are these 4 things, which I think would be important to most retirees:

1. Resources and clubs for senior citizens. The Routt County Council on Aging offers resources for seniors along with social activities like a weekly eat and greet, a speaker series, private showings at the Tread of Pioneers Museum and Steamboat Art Museum.  Steamboat's Over the Hill Gang also offers social activities such as group snowshoeing, hiking and pickleball.

2. Our beautiful and fantastic Bud C. Werner Memorial Library. I know, every community has a library but Steamboat's is particularly community-centered and architecturally sophisticated.

3. Steamboat's newest senior living facility, Casey's Pond. This charming property offers a variety of care options and living arrangements and was recently named one of the Best Nursing Homes in Colorado by the U.S News & World Report.

4. Quality medical care. The Yampa Valley Medical Center provides quality medical and emergency care and recently solidified a collaboration with the Mayo Clinic. Now Routt County residents will benefit from the extensive network and world-renowned resources of the Mayo Clinic without leaving the Yampa Valley.

Steamboat Springs is a tight-knit community filled with young families but it is also a great place for retirees. With year-round community activities and celebrations and the down-to-earth residents, you will feel right at home here in Steamboat Springs in no time.

Charli
