Leisure World of Maryland, “A Diverse Community of Active Adults,” works around-the-clock to promote and foster a sense of security for its 8,500+ residents. The 610-acre community is enclosed and self-contained, and entry is limited to three monitored gatehouses. In addition,special police stand guard 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to ensure the comfort and safety of residents. Finally, to assist residents’ travel plans both within and outside the community, shuttle buses and other transportation accommodations are available free of charge. Altogether, these security measures contribute to Leisure World of Maryland’s positive appeal.
Three Security Gatehouses
The Georgia Avenue Gate, referred to as the Main Gate into Leisure World of Maryland, is located on Rossmoor Boulevard off of Georgia Avenue. It feeds into North Leisure WorldBoulevard and is situated near Clubhouse I and the outdoor swimming pool. The gate is open 24 hours, seven days a week. If residents are expecting visitors or employees, they should notify the Main Gate immediately and request guest passes from the Administration Building.
The Norbeck Gate, also known as the North Gate, is located on Norbeck Road. Like the Main Gate, it leads to North Leisure World Boulevard. It is close to Clubhouse II (which features the indoor swimming pool and fitness facility), the Physical Properties Department building, and theMedstar Medical Center. This gate is open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The Connecticut Avenue Gate, also known as the South Gate, is located on Connecticut Avenue off of Bel Pre Road. It leads to South Leisure World Boulevard, and it is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
Special Police Crew
Having police offers stationed around the entire community offers a visible and personable source of comfort. These officers monitor the area on foot and in vehicles 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with a special mission to protect Leisure World residents.
Shuttle Buses
With so many amenitiesaround the large community, transportation is a convenient amenity. Leisure World of Maryland provides shuttle buses free of charge that operate Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There are three bus lines—the Red, Blue, and Green Routes—from which residents can choose depending on their current location and the time. These bus routes travel within the Leisure World community and toLeisure World Plaza.
An outside shuttle bus runs on Wednesdays, taking riders to the Olney Shopping Center in the mornings and to the Aspen Hill Shopping Center in the afternoons.
Other Transportation Accommodations
For residents who require physical accommodations and/or are non-ambulatory, a physically-challenged van runs seven days a week from 8 a.m. and 11 p.m.
If residents wish to have their own vehicles on the Leisure World campus, they can visit the parking decal office, which is open Mondays from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and Fridays from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. To register their vehicles, residents must simply provide their Leisure World identification card, driver’s license, and MVA documentation of vehicle registration.
