UPDATED 2019
I moved to Chicago's North Shore in 1986 - I believe I have now lived here longer than I did in California. But there is one thing that I have longed for all these years.
I know you're thinking it's warm weather that I miss (I do.)
Perhaps it's the vast expanse of sandy beaches (Indeed.)
The horrendous traffic (nope, got plenty here!)
What I miss most is the topography - the mountains, the hills, the valleys. As a runner, I had to adjust to running over and down or drive miles to find a flat place (the area around the Pasadena Rose Bowl is perfect for that.)
I just discovered the Illinois's highest point is . . . Charles Mound at 1,235 feet. Compared to California's Mt. Whitney at 14,494 feet, poor little Charles Mound can easily be missed as it's tucked away in the northwest corner of the state.
The former Sears Tower, now called Willis Tower, is higher than that!
I suppose if you stood on top of it, you could see all the way to Kentucky.
