Just returned from an afternoon at Tanglewood. It was a fabulous, and I don't use the word lightly, performance of Rachmaninoff's' Piano Concerto No.2 with Gabriela Montero as the featured artist, and Verdi's Scene Two from Aida with a full chorus and a number of soloists I was unfamiliar with. The concert was dedicated to Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos who was scheduled to conduct by sadly died last month. Sad but poignant tributes were included in the programs I distribute as a Greeter. Jacques Lacombe, of the New Jersey Symphony filled in and made his debut with the Boston Symphony today.
Now before you say you are not a classical music lover or have no ideas about this music, let me tell you, if you heard it you would recognize it. good music is magic and I heard a lot today. There are always surprises at Tanglewood and today some artists I didn't know, made the music I heard soar. Easy, beautiful and natural. Wow, I am lucky to be here.
