Exploring the Gold Coast of Long Island at Sands Point Preserve
Looking for something fun and educational to do on Long Island?
Over the weekend, some friends and I checked out the Sands Point Preserve along the Gold Coast--also known as the North Shore of Long Island.
That day, we took a tour of one historic mansion called the Falaise Mansion owned by Harry Guggenheim. The estate was once owned by the Guggenheim back in the 1920's and eventually turned over to Nassau county in 1971.
Fun fact: We learned that before Charles Lindbergh passed away, he drove to the Guggenheims' Long Island Mansion to drop off books. Shortly after, he passed away. Here his car remains.
The style of the home was very much medieval inspired--not very Feng Shui friendly do to the lack of natural lighting, yet it did feel very well protected with strong solid walls.
Here is part of the beautiful withing a small courtyard was the in ground swimming pool and small garden surrounding it.
