Metro Comes to Reston, VA!

The first Metro station in Reston opened this past Saturday, July 26, 2014.  The Wiehle-Reston East Silver Line Metro stop is open and running. Today is the first day that commuters are using Metro to commute from Reston!

I remember when the last big transportation event, the opening of the Dulles Toll Road, came to Reston. That was back in the day when, before the Toll Road opened,  commuters either drove Route 7 or drove to Dulles Airport, did a u-turn and got on the Dulles Access Road. 

Once the Dulles Toll Road opened, we all started rolling down our windows (mostly manually) and stocking our ashtrays with quarters.  Today, it is such an accepted part of the Reston commuting process that it is rarely mentioned (unless there is a rate increase).

Accepting the Silver Line will probably take some time. Folks are set in their ways and there have been some interesting parking decisions made (like not having any  parking at the Tysons Corner stops and limited parking at Reston).  The bus routes have changed and the whole thing has become more expensive. Each of these changes will take some adjustment.

I am excited to take my first ride down to visit DC. As a Realtor, I will have little use for the Silver Line as it comes to my day-to-day work, but it will affect the decisions that my buyers make and hopefully increase home values for my sellers.

We are all excited to see how the Silver Line will impact Reston!
