Active Rain: I feel betrayed...

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Riverbend Realty, Cape Girardeau, MO 2004008944

Do any of you feel abandoned by what was once an independent platform?

When I read the stories last week about Zillow acquiring Trulia, I thought, "Surely not. Surely there is some sort of anti-trust violation here." But, Trulia confirmed that the acquisition is for real.

For now, it’s business as usual at Trulia. Our focus and commitment to connecting you with consumers and helping you close more transactions remains the top priority of our entire team.

Regards,
Pete Flint
Trulia CEO

I hated it when Market Leader (Active Rain) sold out to Trulia. Now, Trulia is selling out. I feel betrayed. I am not reassured by "For now, it's business as usual at Trulia." Not reassured at all!

We cannot even turn to Realtor.com, now controlled by Move. Last week, there were also rumors that Trulia was looking at acquiring Move. That may be on hold, for now...

I have always hated the centralization of data that our industry is seeing.

Now, I fear for our future. How stupid are we to ignore what happened to the travel industry? I know that Realtors® certainly provide a higher level of service than travel agents, but I do feel that the model holds true on many levels.

If you are looking for a foreclosure in Cape Girardeau, Perry, N. Scott, or Bollinger counties, I am the region's most experienced REO agent. As the area's ONLY Fannie Mae direct listing agent, I list more foreclosure properties than any other agent in this MLS. I am among the few local agents approved to both list and sell HUD properties. Give me a call if you are looking for help with the purchase of a foreclosure property.

If you want up-to-the-minute real estate information, the only way to get it is to have an agent set you up on auto-notify with immediate delivery. Your listing information will come directly from MLS only when it comes from an MLS member. You willl not have to wait for the information to roll to those other websites, and you will not have to check multiple sources. It's free, so why not give me a chance to help you in your search?

NO OTHER SOURCE is as complete or as fast as your local REALTOR®’s source. This is not just an advertisement for REALTORS®--it is information about how the system really works.

Liz, Why I love AR hasn't changed an iota with the announcement.  And the same strategy I was using to win against Z & T when they were separate doesn't change with their merger.  They still cannot provide the agent in the streets knowledge and perspective that we can if we choose to.   That expertise is not quite the same commodity as the travel agents where a plane seat is a plane seat and the only thing that matters is time and price

Eileen~That's part of my point. We have no choice...or do we?

Liz and Bill~Yes, I know that we provide more than acess to a plane seat, but I still believe that parts of the model are parallel to what's happening in real estate. We cannot continue to hide from the truth, merely because we unlock doors.

Liz I honestly don't think it's going to change my business model or where my clients from no matter how many times AR is bought and sold. My clients expect and want my years of experience and  knowledge - that's what has value.  I have not relied on either Z or T for leads and I don't perceive that to happen in the future. It could perhaps but somehow I have a feeling it's not going to. As for having a choice - we all have a choice.  ActiveRain is a strong, positive community and I'm glad I've been a part of it and still am.

I am very annoyed.  I am most likely going to abandon Trulia when the deal is finalized.

Anna~I am not concerned about Active Rain or Trulia, per se, in spite of my headline. I am, however, concerned about the conglomerate aspect of the issue. It seems that the anti-trust laws should come into play pretty soon.

Dee~I'm not sure that individual agents have many choices...or at least, that they will continue to have real choices.

I don't know how this will change AR if at all....but the last thing we need around here right now is more change.

There are many apprehensive real estate brokers. The real estate industry has many outdated practices and innovations will be taking place.

Liz~ At this point, for me, it is business as usual. I use blogging on ActiveRain for business, getting my message out there, to be found and that's not changing. So for me, for now, I'm just riding the wave.

Sharon Tara ~ So far, it doesn't seem to be changing AR.

Roy Kelley ~ Change and innovation are good things, but what I am apprehensive about is the lack of control we exert over our own industry. To some extent it was our own lack of innovation that brought us here.

Donna Foerster ~ It's reassuring that we do have avenues "to be found." Part of the challenge in these changes is how long before we pay even more for that privilege.
