My signs have the company logo on them, my name and phone number.

Recently I've had 2 different properties where people questioned the sign: is the house for sale or rent, or are you a property management company?

I think it's pretty brain dead. But do you use FOR SALE riders above/below your regular yard sign to specify a property is for sale?

I'm using Realty Executives new metallic blue design.

This may sound stupid, but then again, I thought the people questioning the sign were pretty thick. Am I crazy?

I use the for sale riders if the signs do not state open house or for sale.

Either way - it's a marketing opportunity for you.  Get their contact info and sell them a home.  If they are looking to rent, maybe they should consider buying if your market works for them.

I don't use the for sale either, but some of my agents want to use them because they are concerned that people may not know it is for sale. I think they are nuts, but .....

I think they're nuts too. Do we have to say FOR SALE? on a sale sign?

But this is the first time a consumer complained about it to me.

The answer is yes you should probably say if the property is for sale or rent.  How is a person driving by supposed to know if the property is for sale or rent or you just needed a place to put a sign.  Personally I don't put either and take all calls.

Yes, it is best to indicate if it is for sale or for rent.  We know, but the "drive by" public would not have any reason to know.  If they are looking for a rental, they may be hoping it's a rental, and if they are looking for a place to buy, they may want it to be a "for sale" sign.  So, I do think it is best to indicate which one it is on the sign.  Maybe you can buy a "stick on" that says "for sale" or "for rent" so you don't have to order more signs.  If I come across any, I'll let you know.

Erica - I use the same sign as you do.  I add "For Rent" riders on my rentals.  Otherwise, I just go with the standard sign.  The calls seem to come in with the caller realizing it's a sale listing.

LOL!  No, I just use the riders for pending and/or SOLD!  Are you planning on going to the Buffini Leadership Conference in Las Vegas, in May? Boston Turning Point next week?  I know he is going to PA in June and I am planning on going:)

It's a Good Life!

In my area I get the occasional question if it is For Sale or Rent.  I don't use For Sale sign as very few if any rentals are done by the Real Estate companies.

Hi Erica, I think it also depends alot on what the standard is in your area. Around here you don't see them too much but when I was in the U.P. of Michigan every sign had a For Sale rider.

Erica, Your not crazy.  I have a couple of propertys that could be your first time home buyers or inverstment property.  I have more calls wanting to know if that particular property is for rent.  Although I don't put out for sale riders - I do think it is a great ideal.  And I'm seriously thinking of investing in a few of them.

I hate showing a property to someone and then they say, " Would the seller consider renting it?"  Sometimes you just got to say , Here is your sign.
