A send-off party is a great idea, Anita Clark. Saying goodbye to our friends and neighbors is really hard. It's a great way to rekindle the memories and spend time with them. However, with all the stress of moving, this is often one of the last things that will cross your mind when moving. 

I particularly like the part about getting the family involved. It's great when people can fill a boxes full of things for the Goodwill or Salvation Army. This frees up clutter and space and time moving things to the new location. PLUS, get a receipt for good tax deduction on income taxes!
