What is your real estate "uniform"?

Just curious.  Do you have a "uniform"?

Personally, as an agent, I feel most comfortable in khakis/cords and a golf shirt/mock turtleneck.  I also have a cool RE/MAX windbreaker type sweatshirt for cooler weather.  I never wear a name tag anymore.

Most of my business comes in every day living.  I don't really "go" to work anymore.  I am always meeting people, whether it be at the gym, Starbucks, a party or wherever.  In that sense most of my "work" is in clothing that is situationally appropriate.

My boss and I used to argue about this.  I went along with him for a couple months and did the suit and tie thing.  For me, I think it scared my prospects.  My nature is more casual, so seeing me all dressed up probably seemed out of character.

Either way, I sure feel better in the more casual clothes.

We have a RE/MAX event at the end of April in Oak Brook Illinois.  It will be a good opportunity to load up on onsale RE/MAX clothing, if my budget allows.  I love that stuff.  It let's the world know what you do, in a not so in your face way.

So, what's your "uniform"?

I do mainly commercial so when I meet at the construction site, it's "casual" for me.  Meeting clients, I'm always in a suit.

My uniform is "comfort" in whatever state.  No high heeled shoes, no ton of jewelry.  Most of the time black pants and a white top with a belt to hang my smart phone on.  It has to be on my bod!

I used to dress kind of old fashioned:

So I updated to something more snazzy:

runningincolor

In the summer (May and June) I get more casual...

Until July, when I am very patriotic:

...and for Thanksgiving I'm no turkey:

...and I try to be jolly at Christmas...

Ken,

I did the whole dress up thing.  For a guy you may not understand but usually required some uncomfortable undergarments.  The dressy thing made me uncomfortable and in the summer very hot and sweaty.  So I said to myself, would my clients rather see me "put together' and dripping sweat and noticable uncomfortable or would they rather me be able to talk straight with them, be confident in the information I was presenting and focus on them.

Plus I believe in the lower price home, looking all flashy is very intimidating to many first time home buyers.  I've been working with several clients this year in the high end price range and am going comfortable, which means jeans or slacks and nice dress shirts or other comfortable shirts.  I make sure my hair is always done and the makeup looks good, but also that I'm comfortable.

Plus lots of average home buyers and sellers already think REALTORS are hauling in the cash, so I feel like if I'm dressy and flash some fancy jewlery they'll have their beliefs confirmed.  When really most of us just make a decent living.

With all that being said, when I do an open house I do dress up a bit more because it will be a first time meeting with potential clients.  Many clients I meet in person the first time, I've already had many conversations with either through e-mail or on the phone so they've already gotten to know me and my personality before seeing the real deal.

I'm all about being real.  I'm not trying to say that those who do the business style dress aren't real.  It's just about being comfortable in your skin and when you're not you can't focus all your attention on your clients.

Our office prefers a dress up approach but we like to be casual..it puts our clients as ease and I think they expect it in the Old West :)
