It is my business practice to give a client something nice after we close escrow. It is usually something nice that they can proudly display. Depending on their price range of their sale, I have given artwork, wall iron décor, candle holders, DVD player, silk plants, etc. My thought is that it can be conversation starter during a party, and my clients would mention that it's from me.

Our success also depends on the competence of our coop agents.  Our coop agent also deserves some sort of gratitude.  My coop agent usually receives a handwritten thank you card, and a $20 gift card to Office Depot after our pleasant transaction.

5 Comments on How Do You Treat Your Coop Agent? Part 2 With a Photo of Reno, NV

Interesting concept, I don't know anyone who does this, how does it work for you?

Catherine - I usually send a hand written note if the agent has been response and helpful in the transaction (In contrast to what I call the "disappearing agent" - writes or accepts the contract and disappears until closing - that I know we've all had the misfortune of working with from time to time.). It never occurred to me to send a gift, but that's a good idea. Maybe a small Starbuck's card would be appreciated.

There are some agents that I go out of my way to show their properties (and interest them in mine) and others that the client would really need to bring the property up to me for me to show as I know what will come next. Just human nature . . . so cementing a positive experience with a small gift makes sense. Thanks for the idea.

Karen Monsour ~ It is important to have a good reputation.  Not only with clients but also with colleagues.  My coop agents are very grateful.  Our subsequent transactions always end in positive note.

Robin Sherman ~ Good point about building friendship with other agents.

Thank you both for stopping by. Never underestimate the power of being nice to someone.

Catherine, of course reputation is important! We live by our reputations and I never meant any different. I gift my buyer's and seller's, however, many do not gift, period.  I wrote a blog on "gifting" a while back... as I said, Interesting blog! Things to think about.

Karen Monsour ~ If you decide to give it a try, let me know how it works out for you.  Thanks.
