The Content of What You Say
“The basic rule of human nature is that powerful people speak
slowly and subservient people quickly - - because if they
don’t speak fast nobody would listen to them.”
Brendan Gill, Author
As I see it . . . . . . .
The content of what you say
Same people talk at a rapid pace . . . . and some people will have a hard time in following what the speaker is saying.
Some people speak very slow . . . . and with a purpose. In both cases the listener can turn out for the speaker based not on the pace of the conversation . . . . but on the content of what the speaker is saying.
Here’s the key . . . . people will listen to you when you present them with quality content. No matter if it’s for a speaking presentation . . . . a general conversation . . . . a customer . . . . or on a listing appointment.
In every aspect of life professional communicators provide the listener . . . . with quality content to keep the listener engaged in the conversation.
Match and mirror your customer’s speech patterns . . . . and the pace at which they’re speaking at. And give the person good content in the conversation and you will find that person is giving you their full attention as they listen to you . . . . In the process you’ll be building rapport with them.
It’s the content of what you say . . . . that effectively engages the listener.
