Free Access to Omaha’s MLS

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Greater Omaha 20041001

It used to be that Realtors were the gatekeepers to information on homes that were for sale. Each agent carried a binder with the current listings in it. If a buyer wanted information on a house they had to go through an agent.

Fast forward to the 21st century. Now everything is available through the Internet. Buyer's have access to all of the same information that agents once held dear. Agent's access to information is no longer of value. Today agents must be knowledgeable. Being knowledgeable is much more than just having information. It is having information, knowing how it relates to other information, and being able to put it to use. Too many agents are still relying on having information.

In the spirit of this new era of information freedom, I invite buyers to search the Omaha Area Board of Realtor's Great Plains Multiple Listing Service (MLS). You will have the same ability to search for homes in Omaha as a licensed real estate agent.

Hey Troy, It will be very interesting to see how this effects the real estate transaction process in the future.  Now that the info is available to everyone any where in the world and we now have transparency in the industry...I see us moving more towards the redfin type model in the future.

I find the younger generations are wanting to be more in control of the process and transactions.  Much like the collapse of the Travel Agent...my parents owned travel agencies when I was growing up...that business has really become almost obsolete now as most now do their research online and buy their tickets for travel directly from the vendor.

Do you think they are going to let the banks start to sell real estate soon...since they are going to own most of it vey soon?
