Active Rain Challenge - What have You done to make a difference in your Community

Donna Foerster of Cherry Creek properties created a Active Rain Challenge for july to write a post about what you have done to make a difference in your community. Either you can writer concerning previous volunteer  experience and relate a story or if you do not have a previous experience then you can write about how you would like to get involved in some type of community project or volunteer position. I chose to write about the later concerning what i would like to do in the future in Katy or Fulshear or whereever in Texas.

My wife and I over the years have volunteered several times in children’s activities and especially assisting or actually coaching a team. We on a normal yearly basis make donations to local charity groups who do make a difference in the local area and avoid helping large bureaucratic organization which spend most of their funds supporting their expensive lifestyle of the applicable executives. Our donations have been cash, food, clothing, household items etc.

We both work many hours and try hard to save time for family and friends plus working out for ourselves. Time is precious to both of us. Right now I really cannot fit in anything else into my life. However, some day when I am not working two jobs I would love to volunteer in an organization which through my due diligence I can ascertain really does help folks out who need help. I have always thought if I somehow came into money I would want to create my own foundation. My current list of folks I would want to help include: abused women and children; veterans and especially those who are homeless or have injuries from their service; folks who are hungry and need food; Senior citizens who are stuck in their homes.

Once I can actually retire I know I will need something to do to keep active. I would really like to volunteer at a food bank or food kitchen where folks who need help go to just survive. I think being able to assist folks with the basic needs of food and water would be very fulfilling for me and would make me feel good inside. My intentions would be to learn this business by starting at the bottom and hope I can progress in the organization. Eventually I would love to learn the art of securing donations from small and large companies in the local community and especially from groups who really do not do much to help their fellow person.

Thanks for reading my post and I hope all of you can take the time to do something to help folks in your own communities.
