Morning Thoughts while Working Out in Katy

I have changed my workout schedule to separate cardio exercise from  free weights. I now hit Lifetime Fitness in Katy 5-6 times per week instead of every other day. I now have lots of time to think while working out. My mind drifted to the Zillow buying Trulia deal announced this week. I am not sure what I think of this whole situation. What are your thoughts? Good or bad? What impact will this have in the long run on Active Rain?

I have been involved in acquisitions during my career and I have had several friends and acquaintances also have this experience which is usually not much fun. Typically the company buying the other entity says stuff like there will be no changes. This situation usually lasts at most 6 months when they announce a strategic change of direction. Executives at the company which has been bought are usually gone from their jobs in less than one year. These are my observations.

First of all, great job with your regular exercise program. Healthy and smart you. As for the merger, I am going to stay focused and continue to be the hyper-local agent who blogs using long-tail searches. I'm philosophical about it and figure "what will be, will be..."

Bob-That mirrors what I saw in the corporate world too. Always found it better to be with the acquiring company as opposed to the acquired. Training for a marathon?

Good morning Bob. Good for you on the workout regime. As for the aquistion, my experience is like yours. That said, we'll see about the impact which is not as critical as it would be if I were working for AR.

Thank all of you for your comments. There will be changes to AR in my opinion. I will not sweat what will happen but numerous of these managers and above in the taken over organizations need to dust off resumes very quickly!

I really don't think the acquisition is something that is going to hurt us overall.

It's OK that Zillow is buying Trulia.  That's part of the new reality in real estate and the representation process for buyers, sellers, and investors.

Zillow is really a real estate agent advertising company, and that's the source of most of its revenue.

Real estate pros need to check out Z and T on a regular basis and see what our friends and clients and looking at - and information that can help us, such as communities, schools, maps, zones, etc.

Bob, I find it ironic that a company who has not made a profit was only able to BS investors into spending lots of money is being acquired for $3.5billion... call me crazy but I bet you that Warren Buffet is laughing at this transaction:)), Endre

I should be following your workout program. My doctor just told me to do more weight bearing exercise.

All of us will be watching the results of the Zillow acquisition.

Bob

I too think overall this will not be a good thing. Already with the crazy new allowed points, all the subtle design changes, some good some not so good, I get a bit dizzy. I am going to not think about it and continue doing what I have done. Time will sure tell, cheers cvc

I have mixed feelings about it but frankly miss the days when AR was owned by the guys that started the whole thing. We were a family, now with all these corporations taking over, I am not sure where it is going.....................

I have not written anything about this yet as I am not sure what I think. Not sure if it will affect us or if a lot of employees will lose jobs.
