Where Are Your 500 Points Per Post for July 9th to July 13th?

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with ActiveRain Corp.

Back on July 9th, we wrote a post that talked about how the traffic on ActiveRain was up over 65% during the previous couple of weeks. As part of that post, we offered 500 points for all posts written between July 9th and July 13th (awarded for all posts in that time frame that didn't go over the 20 post per week limit).

In the last week, we have had a ton of folks contact us wondering when they are going to see their points. The good news is they were already awarded. The bad news is, we didn't send anything special out to let you know.

Normally, when we have some kind of contest, the points are awarded by a manual entry, and as such, you receive an email letting you know that you got the points. However, for this particular challenge, because the volume of posts written was so large, we did things a little bit different. Instead of a manual entry for those extra points, the points were actually added to the blog post entry in your 'points' area directly.

So, where you would normally have gotten 225 points (plus any additional points for likes, comments, shares, bookmarks, etc.), you instead received 500 points (plus any additional points for likes, comments, shares, bookmarks, etc.)

So, if you are wondering, where the heck are my points for all those blog posts I cranked out between the 9th and 13th of July, head back and check out your point summary (which you can always find in the little gray bar at the top of every page when you are logged in). Since this was a few weeks ago, you might have to dive back kind of deep to find them, but you'll see them there.....in all their glory.

Wow.  I missed that announcement, but I had five posts that received the extra points.  Awesome!  Thank you.

If I were a betting lady, I would wager that the three most frequenly used words here in the Rain are Active, Rain, and Points. Thanks for all you do.

I'm sure the points were awarded but I would think that I would have noticed such a one time jump in the total points. Thanks for the points!

I saw those come in on my account some time ago. Didn't realize there was any problem with crediting points.

Are people really that obsessed with points? Sure, tracking points from month to month is a great way to mark progress. But to sit down and audit your point totals? That's nuts!

I already noticed the points, but thanks for the post. I have a question...you mentioned something about bookmarks. Do we get points for bookmarking? I've never heard anything about that.

Good to know.  Thought maybe there was a glitch so this explains it well.

For anyone that mentioned they didn't get their points, I went in and manually added them for you guys.

Donna Foerster , you get a small bump on your post if someone bookmarks your post, not if you bookmark a post. But it doesn't happen right away. Instead, it happens at some point over the next 7 days as one part of the scoring algorithm runs that looks specifically at which posts on the site have been bookmarked by other members.

Got to admit it.  Although I understand that points have their use and are important in some way, I typically don't keep much track of them.  And I suppose I just trust that if offered and promised, they will be added at some point.  I do appreciate the info though ...

Ugghhh....I saw that post, and read it. Even thought about it.

But, I must have scanned rather than read, because I fully missed the 500 point special.

There's no excuse, and surely no way to turn the clock back.  Next time, I need to read with more clarity.

Nice idea, and I would expect it generated a significant higher number of entries that week.

Wow, I just went back to look. How odd. Looks like 4 of my posts got the 500 points and the other 7 just got the 225.  That is weird how it did some and not the others. ..     :-(

Dee Toohey ,

You can see your 500+ per post if you go back to page 8 and 9 of your scoring summary. Here is what you currently see at the bottom of page 8.

Bob, when I posted that, the points were not there.  They are there now.  Thanks.
