Writing Localism Posts Brings Value to the Writer, Too!

Getting in on the action at the Carlsbad TGIF Concerts in the Parks in the summertimeWe all know that writing localism posts is important for a number of reasons.

They bring more traffic to our blogs, help grow our business, and provide information that home buyers are looking for, to name a few.

Here is a recent post about Localism posts that is well worth reading if you want to know more about why these posts are important and to gather some great ideas:

There’s More Than One Way to Skin a Localism Post” by Margaret Goss.

Writing Localism posts also provide plenty of value for the writer, too:

You become more knowledgeable about the local community as you seek out places and events to write about, and this gets you out from behind that computer. Plus your increased knowledge provides more value to your clients

Your writing skills improve – the more you write about what’s going on, the more likely your writing will get better.

You become a more well-rounded person as you learn about, and experience, all that is taking place in your local community. You will no doubt find some surprising things!

You will have some fun when you are out and about, and will actually be taking time off from work to enjoy your personal life

Your photography skills will improve as you take tons more photos to use in your Localism posts. If you don’t shame on you! Who wants a Localism post without pics?

Your readers will get you know you better as a person, and as someone with an interest in the local community, which will encourage buyers and sellers to want to work with you

Not only will you learn more about local businesses (retailers, services, restaurants) but you may create potential referral business

You may get some publicity in the local paper

And perhaps your post will be featured on AR and that means even more points

So are you getting the benefits of writing Localism posts?

I love doing localism posts.  I have one about a local dairy bar that I may get to posting before summer is up.

I have found local post a good way to get traffic.  In addition they help keep me in the know about what's going on in my community and give me a wide range of activities to be a part of.

Jeff, They work, no doubt.  I was working in our flower garden yesterday when I got a text from a local person who'd read Saturday's post about Tuesday's levy election.  He wanted to know where to get a yard sign to support it.  Pretty cool to know that within 24 hours of posting a local resident was reading our post.

Bliz - I have had several similar experiences. I love knowing that local stuff I share IS getting found, and people are taking time to respond in some way

Joan - The increased knowledge is HUGE IMO. And yes there is business that happens, too, which is what we want

Jeff, they certainly do bring traffic and depending on the type of post, we need to know hours of operation as well. I definitely don't want to write about a movie theater

Jeff... this is a great point that is easily overlooked. I find that when I'm doing training, in the process of preparation I learn more, as well.

Grant - and that is something we should all strive to do, unless, I guess, if you REALLY don't like writing them

Nina - well if you can explain it in writing chances are you know it. You made an excellent point.
