Florida Surrounded By the Intracoastal Waterway (most of it) - come and see. Take the boat out and enjoy the water.
What's the Intracoastal Waterway? A 3,000 mile inland waterway along the Atlantic and Gulf states. Some sections are artificial canals and some are natural waterway, inlets, and bays. The artificial canals connect sections and make it easier to navigate the waterway.
The idea for an inland waterway started with the Congress of 1826. After the Civil War, funding was cut for it and diverted to railroads. In 1909, things started looking up again for the Waterway. The Intracoastal runs along most of the Eastern seaboard and around the Gulf of Mexico to Brownsville, TX.
Come and enjoy our waterways. This is one of the areas that leads to the waterway in New Port Richey, FL.
