Vacant Homes - What Are you Doing About It.....

By
Real Estate Agent with La Rosa Realty

Yes, its true, that more and more homes are going into foreclosure and are also affecting your property value.    Some of these homes appear to be forgotten by the Realtors a well as by the bank.  But remember, you are the ones who have to live next to some of these homes.

What are you doing about it?  Have you tried contacting the Realtor listed to get someone to come and cut the grass?  Have you tried picking up the garbage around this vacant property?  Have you gone over to cut the grass of this property?  Remember, even if you were to put a for-sale sign on your property, the way in which the other property looks might affect the sale of your home.  Do all that you can to get in touch with someone - your HOA and the bank to have the grass cut, find out from the bank or the Realtor if it's OK for you to cut the grass.  I believe if everyone cares about the property around them, then their property will hold some of its value a bit longer.  Now is not the time to be pointing fingers and blaming others.

Some might ask if this is something that I would do - YES.  Right next to our home is one heading into foreclosure.  The bank has stop getting the grass cut.  Papers were still being dropped on the driveway and in the grass.  We took action and made sure the home does not look vacant or neglected.

Remember, get permission from the bank or the agent whose name is listed for this property.  If not sure who to contact, check with your county appraisal office and ask for the owner of the record for the property in question.  Be sure they are not giving you the name of the previous owner.  Please insist that they give you the bank information.

Keep in mind that neglected homes affect the bottom-line.....your property value!
