San Diego Safari Park | The Cheetah
One of my favorite exhibits at Safari Park are the Cheetahs and the Cheetah Run. Cheetahs are the fastest land mammal that get up to speeds of 60 to70 mph. Seeing that first hand is really quite stunning.
One of the distinguishing features of the Cheetah are the Malar Stripes. These are the black lines from the corner of the eye down to the corner of the lip area.
I have taken hundreds of photos of the Cheetahs but one of my favorite ones is the one that I took a couple years ago when one of the Cheetahs was coming from behind a dead tree and as he appeared, I captured his face.
There is one thing I can tell you about this park that is so different from others. The planners of this wild open and natural zoo had in mind that visitors would see the animals in large open areas that resembles their natural habitat and still provides for an up close and personal experience with them.
I have been to lots of zoo parks and there is something very special about the San Diego Safari Park. And the more you learn, the more you want to experience it. I maintain an annual membership because frankly I can never get enough of it and invariably always find something different to concentrate on.
This month of August starting today Aug 5th, the Butterfly Jungle is open with thirty plus species of butterflies and it is quite an experience to behold. I haven't been as yet but when I go this time, I was advised to wear very brightly colored clothing as it will attract the butterflies. I will share the results of what that looks like through the camera lens soon.
