Speechless Sunday Lighthouses

By
Industry Observer

August 7th was national lighthouse day on this day in 1789 there was Act of Congress that was passed for the making of lighthouses, beacon, buoys and public piers. On the 200th anniversary of this act Congress established August 7th as National Lighthouse Day. I love lighthouses and I hope you enjoy these pictures of American Lighthouses. Lighthouses for many sailors represented a beacon of light that symbolized safety and security for boats at sea. The above picture was actually taken last year on National Lighthouse Day unbeknownst to the photographer. .me.

Curtis,

The top one of the bottom was taken in NYC and the bottom was one taken outside of Seattle.

Hi Yolanda - pretty to look at...not too interested in climging all the stairs to the top.  I do see the value for the shipping and sailing folks as well as historical value

Yolanda-I guess in most situations today, with the navigational tools available to ships lighthouses are not as crucial for safety, but they are still interesting to see.

Yolanda, what a creative way to honor a little know day of recognition.  Yet, thousands upon thousands of mariners and passengers owe their lives to these steadfast beacons of hope and light!  They have continuted to shine their light as they were being assaulted by constant waves and wind from the sea.
