Today at worship service my pastor brought me, and quite a few others to tears. He was preaching today on Romans 13: 1-7. Not these are the passages that explain how we are to submit to the authority that God puts in place. Needless to say submitting to authority is not everyones favorite thing to do, especially in a culture that worships individuality and doing your own thing. Just the same authority and rules are put in place for our own good. And obeying authority is biblical.
So after about 20 minutes of re enforcing all the various levels of authority we are to submit to in our life he moved into when it is okay to disobey authority. You see Gods law overides all others. He told a story about a man who in I think 1894 bequeathed a major city, I think Philadelphia 1 million dollars to build and orphanage and a college but in his will he stipulated that the can be no mention of Christianity taught in either. There can be no Ministers nor mention of God. Well his children challenged the will, and the lawers on both sides called this an abomination. Eventually it went to an appeals court who ruled that such wording was against the principals othat our country were founded on.
Imagine a court decision that upheld Christian values. It was not that long ago that our country still had morals. He then expressed his opinion that he thought this country will not survive if we continue to throw basic morality and the word of God out the window.
Although we are taught that God ordains our leaders and we are to submit, because He can bring good works even from the evil. We also know that as Christians we are not to condone things that are in direct contradiction to the word of God. We must continue to voice our opinions against such abominations as abortion and homosexuality. Just because our government says they are ok does not give us the right to go against the word of God.
Then to end the service in what seemed to me to be a strike against alot of what we have been seeing on the news lately our pastor led the congregation in a heartwarming rendition of AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL.
GOD BLESS AMERICA
For His Glory
Hugh
